Smexy’s Top Ten March 23–Third Anniversary Edition
Smexy is three today! It seems like I’ve been doing this a lot longer. LOL. But is has been three very fun years. In this past year, we have had the addition of May and Helyce, and I can’t say enough how much I appreciate them and of course Tori! Since the anniversary falls on a Friday this year, I thought I would go back through all of my top tens, and post my favorite top ten moments from all of my lists. 10. August 20, 2010 – I was still obsessed with True Blood Continue Reading
Review: A Week to be Wicked by Tessa Dare
A Week to Be Wicked by Tessa Dare (Spindle Cove #2) Historical Romance March 27, 2012 Avon Reviewed by May I’m a woman who knows a great deal about rocks. I suggest you find the stones to deal with it. Minerva studies rocks. That is, she has a deep academic interest in geology and spends all of her time reading, researching, even having papers published under her own name. Ok, so she uses M. Highwood and the Royal Geological Society has no idea she’s not a man. But she’s done Continue Reading
Review: Geared for Pleasure by Rachel Grace
Geared For Pleasure by Rachel Grace (Elemental Steam #1) Erotic Romance-Steampunk March 6, 2012 Trade Paperback Berkley-Heat This is my very first foray into a story with a steampunk theme and I have to admit being a little bit lost in some ways. In Geared For Pleasure we enter into the alternate world of Theorrey where old and new are combined in a very intriguing way. Told in two separate but related stories, we meet Queen Idony’s two shield guards, Dare and Cyrus who are the Continue Reading
Review: The Tattooed Duke by Maya Rodale
The Tattooed Duke by Maya Rodale (The Writing Girls #3) Historical Romance February 28, 2012 Avon Reviewed by May “A brooding, tattooed, recluse duke,” Annabelle said breathlessly. “The housemaid with a double life. It’s a Minerva Press novel come to life.” Eliza laughed and said, “Except for all the scrubbing of floors, which is not anyone’s idea of romance.” Back from exploring the world, Sebastian, Duke of Wycliff, has returned home and needs desperately to raise funds to Continue Reading
Review: Thief by Ava March
Thief by Ava March (Brook Street #1) March 19, 2012 M/M Historical Romance Carina Press Reviewed by Mandi Lord Benjamin Parker is pretty sure he is gay, but having never been with a man, he wants to test out his suspicion. Rumor has it that Clements gambling hell caters to his sort of persuasion. So he gets up the courage and visits there one night. When he walks in — even though gambling is going on — he can see men who touch each other more intimately and knows he is in the right Continue Reading
Smexy’s Rule of Romance
As I’ve read romance over the years, I’ve collected little rules I live by when reading a book. I’m all about stretching my boundaries as I read, for example BDSM books have a way of making me reach outside my box. Broken and Dirty by Megan Hart have pushed on my emotional boundaries (in a wonderful way.) But I do have a few rules I read by: Rule #1. If there is going to be a rape scene, the author better tread very, very carefully. Example of a rape scene (and aftermath) handled well: Mercy Continue Reading
