Smexy’s Top Ten

News from Mandi: I ended up looooooving Bollywood Bride by Sonali Dev. Best friends to lovers AND second chance romance. The angst. Oh the angst – this author makes you work for it. I suffered!! *wink* Review to come.

Hot Dreams by Rachelle Chase is a heart-warming little story about a heroine born with a port-wine birthmark on her face and a former male stripper. A little predictable but sexy and fun. Review to come next week.

Shooting Dirty by Jill Sorenson did not work for me. I really liked book one, but this one was too cold. I didn’t like the hero. The sex was cold too. Just a depressing book.

I DNF’d Hidden Scars by Amanda Byrne. Quiet, nerdy hero and a heroine recovering from an abusive relationship. But falls very flat. DNF’d at 50%. Too slow for me. And the hero belonged to a gang when younger and I could not reconcile that with the person he is in present day.

Currently reading Hollywood Dirty by Alessandra Torre and loving.

News from Tori: I didn’t read much this week as my whole family has been sick. Imagine that. 0_o. I swear this state is slowly killing us. I did re read some comfort books-historical romances-by Julie Garwood. Nothing makes me feel better then Julie Garwood.

Owl and the City of Angels by Kristi Charish.  The second in a series, it didn’t grab me as fast as book one did but this supernatural Indiana Jones meets Lara Tomb Raider soon swept me up up up into it’s action packed suspenseful storyline. Review to come.

Base Instincts by Larissa Ione is one big old yummy bite of smexy demonica goodness with a M/M romance and an intriguing gritty storyline. Cheers all around for some old favorites who show up to lend our boys a helping hand.. Review to come.

Code Black by Tina Moss offers an interesting premise as a young reporter in a supernaturally enhanced world finds her life turned upside down when she manifests some strange and unusual powers. This jam packed storyline is heavy on the world set up and romance while light on the conflict. A solid debut though I wasn’t as impressed as I had hoped to be. Review to come.

This weekend I am reading Tall, Dark, and Wicked by Madeline Hunter and Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre.

@Tori – ok, I have to ask: I really liked the plot and mythology in first Owl book, but couldn’t warm up to heroine. Is she still using that “endearing nickname” for her bf? I really had issues with that and not because I am a prude- it’s because it sounded so judgmental coming from her.

Yes, but we hear it maybe twice. It’s more in play and not as derogatory. Like a pet name and Rynn has one for her. One she doesn’t appreciate and it’s an eye opener for her. She’s not as self absorbed in here as everyone has been calling her on it and it really makes her think.

        Thanks for answer, Tori.
I really liked her friend, Nadya, in first book- especially because she called her on her bs. I am glad to hear there was some improvement in Owl’s character.

Oh my goodness….so many choices. If you like historical, start with Honor’s Splendour or The Lion’s Lady. If you like rom suspense, start with Heartbreaker.
