Smexy’s June TBR

June 1, 2020 by Angela 5 Comments

Angela– I have so many books on my TBR list this month I’ve been itching to read. 2020 might be a shit year so far, but some great books have been released.

A Dark and Stormy Knight (Victorian Rebels #7) by Kerrigan Byrne 6/2 Historical Romance– Kerrigan Byrne is self-publishing Carlton Morley’s book and I am so thankful. I don’t think this series would have been complete without it.

Dragon Unleashed (Fallen Empire #2) by Grace Draven 6/9 Fantasy Romance– I have been a long time Grace Draven fangirl and have been looking forward to this release since I finished reading the first book in the series, Pheonix Unbound. This book features a healer with earth power and a dragon shifter. Yes, please.

Alpha Night (Psy-Changeling Trinity #4) by Nalini Singh 6/9 Paranormal Romance– I mean… It’s a Nalini Singh book and it’s in her Psy-Changeling world, of course it’s on my list. I’m especially excited for another alpha wolf/Arrow pairing.

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon 6/9 Contemporary Romance–

In this witty rom-com celebrating the “unique joys of strong female friendships,” three young women bond when the live Tweeting of a disastrous date leads them to discover they’ve all been duped by the same man. (Jasmine Guillory, author of The Wedding Date)

OMG, take my money.

The Marriage Game by Sara Desai 6/9 Contemporary Romance– This sounds fun, as the hero and heroine are stuck working alongside each other in an office above her family’s restaurant.

Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno- Garcia 6/30 Gothic Horror/Mystery–

An isolated mansion. A chillingly charismatic artistocrat. And a brave socialite drawn to expose their treacherous secrets. . . .

The cover sucked me in and then I read the blurb and knew I just had to get my hands on a copy.

The Alien’s Revenge (Drixonian Warriors #4) by Ella Maven 6/29 Sci-fi Romance– I wanted to check out this new venture into space from Ella Maven aka Megan Erickson and I’ve really enjoyed the journey. We are now four books in and this series just gets better and better.

The Devil of Downtown (Uptown Girls #3) by Joanna Shupe 6/30 Historical Romance– I really loved the last book in this series and this release looks to have the same type of pairing. I’m hoping Jack Mulligan and Justine Greene are magical.

Daring and the Duke (Bareknuckle Bastards #3) by Sarah MacLean 6/30 Historical Romance– The final book in what has been a fantastic series, readers finally get to see Grace and Ewan find their HEA. (Update: I couldn’t control myself and read this early and it was EXCELLENT)

Sheena– 2020 has gone to hell in a hand-basket and I’m so far off my reading goal it is laughable that I continue to add to my TBR pile. Homeschooling and a new puppy (Bella Honey!) have seriously impacted my reading time, nevertheless- here are my June anticipated reads!

Queen Move by Kennedy Ryan Out Now. Contemporary Romance. I’m currently a little over 1/2 way through this novel and it is the first time I’ve ever read a Kennedy Ryan book across several days. I usually blast through them with a pulverized heart and burning eyeballs because they are SO TF *GOOD* but being in the moment and relishing Queen Move is so rewarding and I can not wait to review it after I digest it. So far- I’m in awe.

The Power of Hades: A Fated Mates Fantasy Romance (The Hades Trials Book 1) by Eliza Raine & Rose Wilson Out Now Dark Fantasy, Paranormal/Mythological Romance.

I’ve been kidnapped by Zeus. Plucked from the streets of Manhattan and frightened half to death by a freaking Olympian god.
And now I’m trapped in the Underworld, being forced to compete in a series of deadly trials for the position of Queen of the Underworld. Which would mean marrying Hades, the utterly terrifying Lord of the Dead. Who the hell wants a husband at all, let alone one made of smoke and riddled with death?

The cover is cool and the blurb intro sealed the damn deal. Oh I’m all over this one. All. over.

The Devil’s Angels MC: Book 4 – Vex by Lola Wright Out Now. MC Romance. – Bad ass Biker. No attachments. No commitments. No entanglements. Until her of course. Good woman raising her sister and uninterested in “the life.” – Yep. I’m in.

Barbarian’s Treasure (Ice Planet Barbarians #21) by Ruby Dixon Out Now- Sci-Fi Romance. It has been on my kindle shelf for weeks and frankly that is not like me. I love Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarian world(s) so so so soooo much. I am reading this one in June and hopefully another before the month’s end. If you like alien sci-fi romance (like at all– get into Dixon!).

Kini: In May I finished ten books and DNFed 5 more. Not my best month but also not my worst. Seven of the ones I read or attempted to read were on my May TBR. I have a couple that I will carry over and hopefully read soon. Here are just some of the books I am excited about this month.

The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon – 6/9 contemporary. I read this late last year and I really enjoyed it. Fantastic friend group and what I believe to be a realistic depiction of what it is like to be a Black woman working in the tech industry.

The Bitter and Sweet of Cherry Season by Molly Fader – 6/9 women’s fiction. This is the newest book by Fader (Molly O’Keefe’s pen name). Old news, y’all know I am a FAN of all things O’Keefe. The blurb mentions a woman with a secret having to rebuild her life.

The Marriage Game by Sara Desai – 6/9 rom-com. This is a pen name for the author also known as Sarah Castille. The cover of this is so cute. The blurb mentions her dad setting up a profile for the FMC on an online dating site. That’s a one click from me.

The Last Train to Key West by Chanel Cleeton – 6/16 historical fiction. I have really enjoyed Cleeton’s previous two historical romances. She writes such beautiful descriptions of the locales where the stories are taking place, you can’t help but feel like you are there with the characters. This one takes place in Key West as a powerful hurricane is heading that way.

40-Love by Olivia Dade – 6/18 contemporary. I love this cover that so beautifully depicts a fat woman. It is an age gap romance, she’s 40, he’s 26. If they cover hadn’t already sold me, that piece of the blurb would have sealed the deal.

Take a Hint Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert – 6/23 contemporary. I loved the first book in this series so I am anxious to see what Hibbert does with Chloe’s sister, Dani.

Just a Heartbeat Away by Cara Bastone – 6/30 contemporary. I cheated and read this book already. It is VERY good. Age gap with a widower, single dad as the male main character. Take all my money. I will post a review closer to the end of the month.

Tell us what you are excited to read this month. Disco Dolly Deb, now that Kati Wilde finally released your much anticipated book, what else are you waiting patiently for?

@Kini: I loved that new Kati Wilde (LOSING IT ALL) so much—it was well worth the four-year wait!

This morning, I downloaded Dare & HP books from two of my favorite writers: Jackie Ashenden’s BAD BOSS and Caitlin Crews’s CLAIMED IN THE ITALIAN’S CASTLE. I‘ve already started the Crews—it’s a retelling of the legend of Bluebeard. The hero has lost six wives, the heroine will be wife number seven. How does a man lose six wives? I’m sure Crews will be creative in her explanation.

I’m also really looking forward to Kate Canterbary’s THE ASH CHRONICLES, the second in her Adventures in Dating series. Canterbary was one of my “finds” last year and I’ve now read everything she’s published. I love her professionally-competent and sex-positive heroines!

I’ve also got Clare Connelly’s NOTHING LASTS FOREVER on my June tbr. It’s the latest in her Montebellos series (but, unlike many of Connelly’s books, neither an HP nor a Dare).

Because Sybil Bartel’s SHAMELESS, the next in her Alpha Bodyguards series, was bumped to July (and, by the same token, her HARD TRUTH, originally scheduled for this month, was released in May), I don’t have a huge hoard for June…but nonetheless I’m sure I’ll find enough to read to get me to July.

I forgot all about Losing It All. I have it on my shelf, but I’m in an emotional stand off with Wilde. After waiting 9189172 years for Midsummer Bride, I get grumpy whenever the new release *isn’t* Midsummer.

      lol

@Sheena: I may have mentioned it a time or two (or ten thousand, lol), but I’m named on the dedication page of LOSING IT ALL. One of my peak romance-reading moments! I think Kati has another book in her shifter series up next, then the next Deadlands book (which I think is Midsummer Bride), and then something very intriguing titled EVIL TWIN that has a lovely cover that indicates it might be a royal romance of some sort. Can’t wait!
