The Destiny of Violet & Luke by Jessica (The Coincidence #3) Sorensen Releases: January 7, 2014 New Adult Forever Reviewed by Mandi Note: Even though this is The Coincidence #3, it is the first of two books for Luke & Violet (first two were Callie & Kayden, where Luke does play a small role) I really enjoyed the first two books in this series featuring Callie and Kayden (friends of Violet and Luke). Both Callie and Kayden were so screwed up and there was angst over Continue Reading
Review: Born In Blood by Alexandra Ivy
Born In Blood (Sentinels, #1) by Alexandra Ivy Paranormal Romance Paperback, 400 pages December 31, 2013 Zebra Reviewed by Tori Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. A beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered in her home—no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro—one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but Continue Reading
Review: Snow Day by Shannon Stacey, Jennifer Greene, and Barbara Dunlop
Snow Day by Shannon Stacey, Jennifer Greene, Barbara Dunlop Released: December 1, 2013 Holiday Romance Harlequin Reviewed by May This book has three stories, told by three different authors, but all take place over the same few days during a massive storm in Tucker’s Point, Maine. Overall I wish that the stories had been turned more into a cohesive novel or that the points of view overlapped more smoothly than they do here, but it is still a nice effort. Want to see three couples Continue Reading
Our 2014 Reading Resolutions
It’s a brand, spanking new year and the ladies of Smexy Books have decided it’s time to get serious (well, as serious as we like to get around here) and set some goals for 2014. May’s Resolutions: 1. I will read no book that promises “fans of ____ will love this!” 2. I will measure facial hair on all potential new fictional heroes. I need more beards. 3. Any hero living in a cabin in the woods, as a recluse, or otherwise being survival/wilderness man off somewhere immediately gets #1 Continue Reading
Top Ten Favorite Sex Scenes of 2013
My favorite sexy books of 2013. Explicit naughtiness below. In no particular order… Beyond Control by Kit Rocha – Dallas gives me the naughty shivers. And Lex is awesome. Review l Kindle “Give me this, Lexie.” HIs voice was a coaxing rumble, the gentleness a thin mask over hard command. Each time he rocked into her was a little rougher as his patience unraveled. “Tell me my cock’s the hottest thing I’ve ever fucked you with.” “You know it is.” She barely recognized her own voice, low and Continue Reading
Mandi’s Favorite Books of 2013
There were a lot of surprises for me in 2013. I fell for a lizard. An actual alien lizard. I fell for a sweeping male/male fantasy story. But there were also some authors that made my list that are no surprise at all including Nalini Singh, Ilona Andrews. Let’s get to it. Captive Prince Volume One and Two by S.U. Pacat Review l Goodreads l Kindle A favorite read of the year and the trilogy isn’t even over yet! I can barely stand the wait. This is a male/male fantasy story, and while I Continue Reading
Looking Ahead to January
Don’t worry – Smex Scene Sunday isn’t going away. I just don’t have a good scene to post today – I blame the holidays for screwing up my reading schedule! But as I was glancing through my schedule to see what review books I have coming up, I realized January is shaping up to be a damn good month, or at least one can hope. I did get a head-start. I’ve read the crackalicious The Destiny of Violet & Luke by Jessica Sorensen, which has characters even more screwed up than Callie & Continue Reading
Helyce’s Favorite Books of 2013
The other day I got an email from Goodreads that reported that I had read a whopping 97 books this year. My immediate reaction was, “What? That can’t be right!” And it’s not. Mainly because I fail epically when when it comes to logging in books I’ve read that I didn’t have to review for this blog. Sadly, the real number is only about 110 which is still a bit sad. But that’s what happens when real life steps in. Going back to work has taken a huge chunk out of what was my “reading time”. You Continue Reading
May’s Favorite Books of 2013
I read a lot of good books this year especially urban fantasy and contemporary romance. I am, in fact, over the moon happy that fun romantic contemporary romances are back. I am also sad that historical romances, for the most part, are disappointing right now with very few exceptions. Two books that are intentionally absent that were originally in consideration for this list that I do want to mention are The Last Hour of Gann (yeah fascinating, but it just wasn’t awesome for me) and also, Continue Reading
Tori’s Favorite Books of 2013
2013 ran the literary gauntlet from incredible never to be forgotten stories to crap I wouldn’t line my rabbit cage with. We saw the rise of emotionally angsty New Adult, erotic moody billionaire alpha hole trilogies, and intense “omg they di’nt” biker MC romances. Self publishing began to lose it’s stigma and take a larger share of the market while also contributing to the rash of plagiarism that flooded the internet. It was a crazy wild year for publishing. Below is a list of what rocked my Continue Reading
