Captain Jessica Tok is a Dawn soldier on the rocky planet of Kopol to fight the very evil Dusk Warriors, who are there to take over the planet. In charge of the latest attack, she gets separated from her other soldiers when a big bomb hits. But help is on the way.
Sergeant Ryder Hiltop and Jessica have been lovers for quite some time, but that is as far as they have let their relationship go. Since Jessica is a higher ranking soldier than Ryder, she can’t let their relationship become official. So they spend their off-time together having fun with each other, but keep a professional relationship on the battlefield. Well, as professional as Ryder can be. He is a pretty outrageous flirt and is always ready to give Jessica a hard time.
Once Ryder makes it to safety after the attack, he realizes Jessica is still out there. He risks his life to find her, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
The Limit of Desire is the third book in Nico Rosso’s Limit Wars series and my favorite of the series. Jessica and Ryder are pretty much in love when the story starts, although Jessica is very stubborn and it takes her awhile to admit it to herself. She is very serious about her career and worries that a public relationship with a solider of a lower rank than her will cause a scandal. Ryder is so sly and charming, and won’t take no for an answer. He pushes her throughout the book – but at the same time his charming ways is a defense mechanism too. As soon as things start to get serious, he brings on the charm. Except for the last chapter, this book is just the two of them trying to make it back to safety after Jessica is separated from her team. As her and Ryder battle and try to outwit the Dusk soldiers, they also have some serious talks about their relationship and where they would like to see it go. Although it takes time for them both to agree on the long-term, they both can’t wait to finish this battle and take a much needed vacation together for some lovin’.
I’m really happy this author ends the book with a chapter of these two on that vacation too. This book is heavy on the action, although Ryder’s teasing provides some nice sexual tension. But the inclusion of a big romance scene at the end balances out the sci-fi action throughout the book.
This can be read as as stand alone. If you like sci-fi romance, definitely check this one out.

I’m not a huge modern sci-fi fan but your review intrigues me.

Hmm this could be fun. I just read some sci-fi by Anne McCaffrey, but nothing to do with a war between species. Sounds like suspense as well. I’d like to try this series.
So, count me in please.

I’m intrigued – would love to see how a romance between a higher-ranked woman and a soldier would work out.

I just read this one, I really liked it too!! :) I loved how Jenna struggled to find the balance between being a kick-ass super soldier and a woman at the same time.
Don’t enter me in the contest though!

Haven’t read SciFi for some time; this sounds like quite an interesting read to rectify that.
The tension in the relationship between the heroine (love strong heroines) & hero sounds like it’s going to make good reading.
