Summoners are still held responsible for a demon apocalypse that devastated the world.

Marci hides her gifts in order to remain in an underground humanity settlement. A virtual world network hacker, should she be discovered, she will be shipped topside and left to fend for her own.

Gabe, a half blood incubus, uses his charm and magic to trade with the human settlements. He has been looking for a free summoner to bond with in order to control his darker nature and thanks the Gods when he meets Marci.

Though Marci should never trust a demon, even a half blooded on, Gabe convinces her to come back to the outcast settlement where she can live freely without fear of discovery. As Gabe and Marci fight their way to his home, Marci finds the journey topside isn’t as dangerous as her attraction to Gabe. But Marci can’t help but fear that Gabe isn’t telling her the whole truth.

Fifty years ago the world was devastated by an apocalypse set forth by demons who overtook and used their summoners for human annihilation. Now, the world above belongs to the demons and humanity has settled below the earth using virtual networks to connect with one another and explore the world while staying safe. Summoners are considered evil and each settlement genetically tests it’s residents randomly to weed out any and all magical ability. Marci is a network tech who is hiding in the settlement Nicollet. She fears everyday that she will be picked for genetic testing and her abilities made known. Marci is a summoner and that makes her considered dangerous to the humans and easy pickings for the demons.

Gabe is a half demon who trades with the local human settlements. no one knows he’s not fully human and he likes to keep it that way. When he comes to Nicollet, his demon instantly reacts to the summoner magic in Marci. Demons need summoners to bind with. It’s a give and take relationship that is beneficial to both; however since the apocalypse most of the summoners are now dead and the one’s left are in hiding. Gabe vows that Marci be his and when the network fails and they are locked down together he does everything in his power to ensure she learns to trust him and leave with him when the time comes.

Demon Bait is the first in a new exciting series brought to us by the dynamic writing duo of Moira Rogers. A fantastic post apocalypse world setting enhanced with a steamy paranormal romance opens up an explosive new world just begging to be further explored. Smooth writing and steady pacing absorbs us into Marci and Gabe’s adventure instantaneously. Though only a novella, Demon Bait, is a full bodied story that doesn’t disappoint. Marci and Gabe are fabulously hot together as they dance wary around each other. Marci doesn’t want to leave the human settlement or trust Gabe but she knows it’s just a matter of tie before she is found out and cast out. Gabe hates lying to Marci but he knows that her summoners blood will call to all demons and the other demons won’t be as considerate as him when it comes to binding with her. He needs her powers to stabilize him but he wants her trust first. Both are engaging sexy characters who’s personality shine through out the story. I enjoyed watching as they come to know one another and previous conceptions are challenged. As they travel topside on route to Gabe’s settlement, they become more in tune to one another and the attraction increases to epic proportions. Plenty of smoking hot love scenes and exciting fight scenes lets us see that Gabe and Marci do belong together.

The outcast settlement where demons and humans live together is an interesting mix of military rules and general chaos. I enjoyed meeting the other characters and seeing why certain rules were stringently maintained in the settlement.

I can’t wait to see more of this world and the intriguing characters who inhabit it.
