Years ago, Navy SEAL Jake fell in love with Michelle. But because of the awful things Jake saw while in battle, he felt his soul was blackened, fighting rages and darkness within him. So instead of embracing love, he pushed Michelle towards his SEAL buddy who is a genuinely nice guy, and let Michelle go. Michelle and Jake’s best friend go on to get married and pregnant, but he goes onto die in action in Jake’s arms, leaving a pregnant wife at home.

Jake doesn’t rush home though, mentally not prepared. A few years later he is ready, and walks into Black Knight Inc, a covert military operation under the guise of a custom motorcycle shop, impressed with what his friends had built in the years he was gone. Michelle is the boss’s sister (Frank, hero from previous book). Michelle has been kept in the dark from everyone for the past few years for her safety, but now that Jake is back, Frank wants her to come meet everyone and see what he does every day. So they all end up at Black Knight inc headquarters, Jake ready to tell Michelle he has loved her every day for years, and Michelle very nervous and unsure to see Jake again. When an assassin starts hiring people to not only take out the Black Knight men, but also their families, Jake and crew must keep Michelle and her son safe.

This is the third book in this series, and overall each one has been a fun read. The kind of book where you can kick your feet up and know that you will be entertained for a few hours, without tons of angst or drama. The characters and dialogue are over the top, and there is always excitement with pretty solid villains.

The set-up in this story though isn’t my favorite. Jake has always been in love with Michelle, and even though she won’t admit it, she has always been in love with him. Their romance path was predictable in this one, even when a twist is thrown in halfway through, I think many will see coming. I didn’t dislike their romance, but it just never grabbed me. It’s hard for me to find a lot of things to talk about in this book. It just kind of moved along, not really wowing me but not boring me either. Just a middle of the road book.

What I did find more intriguing was the set-up for the next couple in this series, Vanessa and “Rock.” I’m also excited about the future book of Eve (a friend, not part of Black Knight) and “Wild Bill.” Oh yes, bring on that pairing.

While this one was just okay for me, I still recommend this series.

I just kind of feel like all books with hot covers HAVE to be really good. It’s a rule right? :) Hopefully this is one of those series that starts off a little cool and then goes crazy!

I’ve read the first two books and while I enjoyed them, they didn’t wow me. I can’t quite pinpoint what it is. I have not read Rev it Up yet and I’m not rushing to get to it but after your review I plan to read to learn about Vanessa and “Rock”.
