On the rare occasion I don’t read at night

March 26, 2009 by Mandi

Being home with two preschool age boys all day, where nap time went bye-bye a long time ago, my only chance to read is after they go to sleep at night. So, it takes a lot for me to put my book down and do something other than reading in the evening hours. There are only four television shows I can think of that will drag me away from my book:

1. True Blood – HBO.

Well, how can I resist this show! Based on Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire series, this show has sexy vampires and good looking naked men – seriously, how often are going to see Jason having sex? Don’t get me wrong, he has a nice body..but by the end of the season I was starting to feel bad for the actor. I have to admit, I have only read the first two books in Charlaine’s series. I have all of them, peeking out from my massive tbr pile. My goal is to get to them before the second season starts. Sookie somewhat annoys me, I think that is why I wasn’t interested in continuing the series, but I love Bill and Eric, and I know you get introduced to more characters further along the series. The tv show did a decent job in following the books…I am never totally satisfied with books become tv shows or movies, but this one wasn’t too bad.

2. Big Love – HBO.

This is one of the best written shows on tv. Bill Paxton plays a polygamist who has three wives, but they don’t live on the creepy compound, they live out in nice suburbia. They own three houses all in a row and for the most part, no one knows they all are “married.” I love this show because it shows how awful polygamy can be to those who don’t have a choice in the matter, but it also shows a side where three families can come together to unite and support and love each other. Let me tell ya – I am ready to take on a second wife. Heck, I need help with laundry and dishes. Plus, since I was here first, I would be first wife..my butt could sit on the computer while I put her to work – ok..so maybe I want a second wife for the wrong reasons :)

3. Flipping out – Bravo.

Yes this is a reality show, yes it is trash, whatever! I lurve Jeff Lewis, and his housekeeper Zoila. I want Jeff to come remodel my house. He is a total psycho…OCD with cleaning and the biggest control freak you will ever meet. But there is something about him – once in a while he shows his insecure side which draws me in. I really hope they do another season.

4. Lost!!!!!!

The best show on tv. I have watched from day one and it has never disappointed me. This season is killing me with all the unknowns. Last night – Sayid killed little Ben!! WTF?? What happens to 2008 Ben? Is he dead now too? I can’t imagine that..seems a bit anticlimactic..yet I don’t know how a 40 yr old survives when your 10 yr old self gets whacked.

Why is Sun stuck in the present? How did Locke die in LA, and crash on the island and is all of a sudden alive? Where did Daniel Faraday go..is he still in present day? When will Sawyer stop wearing that 70’s Dharma jumpsuit and start showing me his nekkid chest again? All important questions I want answers too:)

FINALLY SOMEONE I can discuss BIG LOVE with! OMG we LOVE that show, we pay for HBO because of that show. As for the vamps I’m hooking you up with Joe….yikes. I read the King Arthur catalog in bed;) But maybe I better investigate some of your series…
