Last night I sat down with When Twilight Burns, the fourth book in the Gardella Vampire Chronicles series by Colleen Gleason. I did not get out of my chair until I finished the book. At one point I looked up, husband was trying to talk to me (how dare he :) and I realized I only had about 100 pages left. I hadn’t meant to read the entire book in one sitting. I meant to read for a bit, get some laundry done, ask husband how his day was :) But that is just how good these books are. Now I know, that tonight, when I sit down with the final book in the series, As Shadows Fade, I will definitely not get up until it is done. I must know how Victoria and Max fare, how will Lilith meet her demise, what will Sebastian’s fate be. Colleen Gleason keeps surprising me with each book. I never thought Victoria would actually get married and then have to dispose of her husband, was shocked when Max did you know what to Eustacia, people have been killed off left and right…maybe I am just dense and should see the twists and turns coming. But if it is my denseness that makes me surprised in each book (I tend to think it is Ms. Gleason’s excellent writing :) then I am glad I am dense!
My husband doesn’t understand why I like to rush through books. I obviously don’t feel like I am rushing..I just have to know what happens!! I am the girl that does occasionally (ok, all the time) peeks ahead to make sure the outcome is to my satisfaction – yes, I have already peeked ahead in As Shadows Fade…it was the first thing I did. And no, I am not ashamed!! I try really hard not to, but I just can’t help it. My husband thinks I should read one chapter a night to prolong my enjoyment of the book. That is not what I call enjoyment…one chapter a night is pure torture!!! There are some books that come out when I know in advance I will read in one sitting – recently Bone Crossed – Patricia Briggs and Faefever – Karen Moning were both read in one night. I didn’t care how long they were, how tired I would be the next day, I HAD to know what happened in those books :) I also chat online with other readers, and knew there would be other girls ready the next morning to discuss the book in detail..I can’t be left out:)
JR Ward’s Lover Avenged comes out at the end of this month. It is 527 pages in hardcover. That is going to be a lot to do in one night..especially if I don’t start until 7:30 (kiddies bedtime.) Husband will be out of town on a business trip so I am already planning my night :) Wine, cheese, and Rehvenge!!
