Happy Ending – LB Gregg

May 18, 2009 by Mandi 7 Comments

Seth is getting the best massage of his entire life by his new masseuse David. It is so good in fact, that he gets aroused and makes love to the massage table, quite unashamedly. David storms out appalled by what an unprofessional turn the massage has taken. Not expecting to see him again, David turns out to be Seth’s waiter at dinner and flirting and sex ensue. This book though is so much more than sex – I must admit LB Gregg writes very hot sex scenes though:). In this book, L.B. Gregg takes you on an emotional ride, heart wrenching at some points.
Seth’s life is not as carefree as just having fun with David . His sister has recently died from cancer and he is the sole guardian of his six year old niece, Molly. At the time of his sister’s death, his long-time partner Quinn couldn’t deal with the time Seth had to devote to his ill sister and the time he is now devoting to Molly and left. Now Quinn is back in town and Seth is none too pleased. Also making things difficult is Molly’s alcoholic biological father, who likes to phone and harass Seth in a drunken stupor.
Seth finds his time with David as a reprieve from his high stress daily life. David is intelligent, young, carefree. He has tattoos and piercings and comes from a very large family, something Seth lacks. Seth is struggling with being a new parent to a little girl who loves everything pink and purple from Target (what girl doesn’t!). The loss of his sister and new responsibilities have made him hard, unable to enjoy the little things in life.
Their very new relationship gets even more complicated when someone leaves photographs of the two of them in a very compromising position in their mailboxes. They now must put their trust into each other before everything they have is destroyed.
Happy Ending was written in Seth’s point of view and it was fun to get into the mind of the more dominant male in the relationship. Outwardly he is a tough-ass, inside his head though, he is a mess of emotions. He misses his sister deeply and is quite alone in the world until David comes along. He wants the best for Molly, but has no idea where to even begin with her. David brings experience of a big family to the relationship which helps Seth see what Molly needs. Although David initially comes across as a bit shy and frail, he knows exactly what buttons to push to get the desired emotion out of Seth. He takes control of the situation when necessary, something Seth needs in his very orderly life.
I have devoured both of L.B. Gregg’s books this weekend – Gobsmacked and Happy Ending. After I read Gobsmacked, I thought to myself – self…that was an awesome book, there is no way Happy Ending can be as good. Well, myself was wrong. I loved them both, I don’t think I can even pick a favorite.
LB Gregg writes such fun characters. The thoughts going through their heads (in both books) had me cracking up all the time. It should not surprise me though, her blog always gets giggles from me, it is one of my favorite places to go:) In both books her opening scenes grabbed me and I knew they would be characters I would fall in love with. As I described above, when Seth gets excited during his massage and takes it too far, he doesn’t feel any remorse or the need to apologize. It could have come across as pervy or insulting, but the scene is written in a way that you juts have to laugh along with Seth. You totally get who he is in that scene.
Both of the books are novella length which makes them fun, fast reads. Go enjoy the men of Smithfield!

    Why do you torment me…

I have so much book on my plate to read and then you do something like this…

This sounds so good – I might just have to take Fitzroy (my ereader) to bed one night this week..

As they are short read… I love your take on this and it's nice when a author follow up with a pretty decent second or better book than the first..

Please no more – my TBR pile is out of control..
