May Reading List

May 30, 2009 by Mandi 12 Comments

I can’t believe it is June already (well, in two days). I think I say that at the end of every month, but it really does not feel like summer yet. Of course, once I think it feels like summer it will be the end of August and then I will say, I can’t believe fall is almost here. Then it will snow and I will say where did winter come from? Then it will be spring and well…you get my point. I have some serious obsession with the weather. I have to know the forecast every morning and if I have the weather channel on, it relaxes me. Have I shared too much? Yes, my life is that exciting *g*.

My son graduated preschool this month. I honestly can not believe I am going to have a kid in Kindergarten this fall. How did that happen? Am I seriously old enough (mentally) to have a five year old? Don’t answer that:)

My May reading included:
The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks – Josh Lanyon – Wonderful murder mystery with hot manlove. Need I say more?

Danse Macabre – Laurell K Hamilton – My least favorite of the Anita series. I didn’t even mind the ardeur so much until this book.

Kiss of Fire – Deborah Cooke – This book lacked sizzle…I need sizzle.

Club Dead – Charlaine Harris – I was going to finish this series before True Blood starts in a few weeks. I read one book. Fail. Still like this series, just need to space them out.
Queer Wolf Anthology – 14 m/m and 3 f/f werewolf stories..holla! I read my first f/f story in this book and it was one of my favs of the anthology. Bring on the hot girl love;)
Lord of Scoundrels – Loretta Chase – Hands down one of my favorite historicals of all time. Lord Dain can unbutton my gloves anytime.
I Spy Something Bloody – Josh Lanyon – I’m a fanyon..he is an awesome writer. This book is a little different then his others…a little more sad, but one of my favs.
Blood Magic – Jennifer Lyon – Fun new author! Can’t wait for Soul Magic. Hawt alpha males.
Gobsmacked – L.B.Gregg – Oh L.B. Gregg you can write a good book…I adore her characters, I love her romance scenes, m/m at it’s best. I am moving to Smithfield.
Happy Ending – L.B. Gregg – See above, add a bit more drool
Blue Diablo – Ann Aguirre – New auto-buy author for me! Amazing book, can not wait for the next Corine Solomon novel.
My Wicked Enemy – Carolyn Jewel – I really loved Scandal…Can not wait for Indiscreet. Might just stick with her historicals.
The Harlequin – Laurell K Hamilton – This one was better than Danse Macabre. Just a little.
p.s. LKH please cast well for your tv movie. JC better be damned smexy. Not sure why I am worried so much about this.
Wicked Lovely – Melissa Marr – One of my top reads of the year. Amazing..you must go read it.
Ink Exchange – Melissa Marr – See above. Keep adding drool and slobber. Melissa Marr has made me a YA fan.
This month introduced me to L.B. Gregg, Ann Aguirre and Melissa Marr. Three authors that I will read whatever they write. I can’t wait to dig through Ann Aguirre’s previous work. Overall a good month!

Congrats on the reads this month…

Some sweet read, I am doing the L.B. Greg this weekend – i just got the second book…

And i know about the little men – they grow up before we realise, and it is no reflection on you my dear – we are still as gorgeous and down to earth as we ever were.

We are only now running around with the snacks, the after schools clubs etc and we know a lot more little people that any body else..

    Enjoy the month of June..

I have to read some of these and venture into new genres, though I already have Lord of Scoundrels on my TBR list, thanks for the mini reviews!

Good list of reads! I don’t have any small children and I barely manage one book a week. :)

Just got both of Marr’s first books on Thursday, can’t wait to read. My step-daughter, she’ll be 13 in July, wants to read those books very badly. I heard there were some sex in the books but Marr handles it well. I told her, I would read them and pass them on to her, if appropriate. I hope it turns out that way.

Kindergarten today, and before you know it, they are going college. That is how fast time seem to go for my son and I. I feel like I blinked and there he was all grown up. :)

Hi Mandi, thanks for commenting on my blog earlier today!

Melissa Marr is an author I discovered last year during a blog series on RWA Golden Heart/RITA finalists and WICKED LOVELY now lives beside my bed for quick access to favorite-scene re-reads. I LOVED that book.

I’m also a new Ann Aguirre fan! Jennifer Haymore (of A HINT OF WICKED) recommended GRIMSPACE, and by the end of the weekend I was hooked on Ann Aguirre. What terrific stories.

Listen – if you liked that f/f story in your anthology, you might give Kirsten Saell a try. She’s published through Samhain – this is her author page. http://www.samhainpublishing.com/authors/kirsten-saell – Kirsten is also part of a multi-author f/f romance blog. I’ll have to find the URL and get back to you.
