My Love for Project Runway

August 27, 2009 by Mandi 23 Comments

Before we get to Project Runway, I want to announce the winner of the Rebecca Savage contest!

Book Chick City

You will have your choice of a Rebecca Savage book! I will forward your email to her and she will be in touch!

I don’t watch a lot of television – pretty much limit myself to True Blood, Big Love, Lost, Mad Men and Letterman (who I have a secret crush on, don’t tell anyone). But, I will always make time for Project Runway. I love fashion – granted my wardrobe consists of things mainly from Old Navy and Target, I still find cute things. Plus I am obsessed with shoes and purses – all things girly.

Anyway, for those who have not seen the show, on Project Runway contests each week receive a specific design challenge – in the opening week of this season, they were asked to make an outfit for an awards show using $200 and they had one day to make it. At the end of the program there is a runway show and one person is voted out by the judges.
First the reason I watch the show – consultant extraordinaire – Tim Gunn
Photobucket

He walks around and gives advice to the designers works in process. He goes about it though in a very sweet manner – always a gentleman. He makes me want to sit up straight and not burp after I drink soda. I love this man and believe we would be total BFF’s if we knew each other ;)
My other favorite person on the show is the exact opposite of Tim Gunn.

Photobucket

Don’t let that smile fool you. She will smile as your outfit comes down the runway and then she will tell you the brutal honest truth. She has caused many tears on the show – in my opinion, she is harsh but with good cause – but I love to see terrified expressions on the contestants faces when it is her turn to talk.

Finally, my favorite contestant ever – Christian Sariano.

Photobucket

Using his word – he is “fierce.” I mean, that hair takes at least a bottle of hairspray :) He had amazing designs and was so freaking funny. He was the best – haven’t found a contestant that is worthy of being fierce since him. Especially not this one –

Photobucket
Ari Fish, first contestant voted out last week – and no, that is not the losing outfit she is wearing while standing on her head, she actually chose to wear that. Her losing outfit was – more suited for space life than award show.

You can watch season 6 of Project Runway, Thursday’s at 10pm on Lifetime (don’t judge the show because it’s on Lifetime)
Do you watch Project Runway? If not, any reality TV?

I love PR! :) Tim Gunn is my favorite followed by Michael Kors then Heidi…because she's hilarious with her little analogies she tries to use. Not a huge fan of Nina.

My favorite contestant was Santino and Kara Saun. She was pretty darn brilliant on the show.

    I also watch Survivor :)

I like Michael Kors too. And Santino – when he would do his Tim Gunn impression – totally would crack me up.

One of my best friends watches Survivor…she is so into it:)

Good morning, Mandi! My husband and I watch only 2 shows…Top Chef and Project Runway (Wed night at 10 pm is "date night" at our house…hee hee!), and now I guess Thursday at 10 pm, too! I totally pooh-poohed all reality tv until I saw these shows. Watching the creative process is absolutely fascinating. Creating outfits from garbage? plants? they rock! And Top Chef is the same….the food they create using snacks from a vending maching…yum! These contestants are amazingly talented. (I'm a Santino fan!)

    LOL Mandi!

I always learn something new when I stop by your blog… I've never heard of this show but it sounds fun.

    Congratulations to the book winner!!

    Great post!!
I love PR too! Now that we are a Netflix only home as a cost saving measure I don't get to watch it anymore. WAHHHH! It kicks ass on all other reality shows.

I hate reality tv…but, I like project runway :) same thing with top model. I don't care for the drama and all that, but I enjoy to see the results.

Oh and Tim is the best!

Lea – I will corrupt your mind ;)

Carolyn – You don't even want to hear what my cable bill is. It is so ridiculous!

Bloeuedd – I watch top model if reruns are on when I'm making dinner. I like Tyra ;)

    Mandi,

My daughter got me hooked on Project Runway. My favorite challenge was when the lady (I don't remember names or seasons..LOL) designed a dress using coffee filters. I thought that was amazing. I think someone has done an outfit with vacuum cleaner bags and one lady used mop heads. It just floors me that someone can look at a household item and say – sure, I can make a dress out of that. :)

My daughter also convinced me to watch America's Next Top Model. And my son and I watch Survivor. :)

Right now the only show I'm actually watch regularly is True Blood, and I'm not much into reality TV. I haven't been much into TV since the writers strike awhile back. For some reason, I just drifted away from watching TV. But Project Runway looks interesting. :)

I got caught up in project runway years ago when I stumbled upon a marathon of one of the seasons.

But I'm confused. I thought it was a Bravo show. Is the season on lifetime a new one or a replay?

I love Project Runway! And I love Tim Gunn–I didn't even realize how much I missed him until I watched the season premier of PR.

My favorite contestant of all time is Austin Scarlet. He's exactly the type of person I would see and immediately glom onto.

My love/obession with Tim Gunn has caused me to use "make it work," in all my business meetings. This whole moving to Lifetime has thrown me for a loop b/c honestly if I see another commerical for "Army Wives" I'm going to have to DVR that ish.

There is something about Nina that doesn't make me in hearts with her. Since I own a Michael Kors purse he is next on my PR cool list.

I might need to check it out because I'm a "next top model" closet junkie. Such train wrecks. Mad Men, now you're talking, love that show.

Hi Mandi, great post. I'm embarassed to admit I'm a reality tv show junkie. I think I go into withdrawal when each one finishes the season.

    Love:
    Next Top Model
    Australian Idol
So You think you can dance
    Masterchef Australia
    Dancing with the stars
    Project Runway

They aren't all on at the one time but hey I have to watch something to console myself while us poor people in Australia wait for Season 2 of True Blood LOL
