First Drop of Crimson – Jeaniene Frost Cover!!

October 13, 2009 by Mandi 24 Comments

Jeaniene Frost just posted her new cover for Spade’s book, a spin-off from her Bones and Cat series!!! Here it is:

Back cover blurb –

The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows – her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield – and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s dark past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness – and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who craves a taste of her.

He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human – even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the demon nightmare together…

Because once the first drop of crimson falls, they will both be lost.

I don’t know – Spade looks pretty fierce in that pic!!
Go HERE to read first chapter.
First Drop of Crimson will be out February 9, 2010.

Ewww….I guess I'm the only one who doesn't like it. Spade looks like a gross zombie or something. Denise looks sexy. Not nearly as good as the Huntress covers…not even close. (In my not so humble opinion!) :)

Yeah, I'm not feeling Spade. He's kind of ugly. I saw the step-back on Jeaniene's website, and I think the girl looks a little bit like Leighton Meester from 'Gossip Girl', is that just me? I like the new cover dynamics – in the Cat/Bones books we see Cat's face, but Bones is shielded. In these books it's Spade's face on the cover, it's a nice way to firmly separate the books.

I have already pre-ordered Menchere's spin-off ('Eternal Kiss of Darkness') from Amazon – to be released July 15 2010. That's actually a lot sooner than I expected the next spin-off to be released, so maybe we will get another Cat/Bones book in 2010?

Yeah, she does. I don't know – I am always on the fence about seeing faces on covers..I would prefer to see them as I make them up. But – I kind of like him. He is different. Not what I see Spade at all though.

I didn't realize Mencheres was coming out that soon after Spade!! I really hope we get another Bones book in 2010..we have to..

At the risk of sounding dumb, what is a step back? Is this the cover that wasn't used?

The step back, which is the cover inside the front cover – in this case – originally the current step back (the girl with bite marks on her webpage) was going to be the cover but Jeaniene Frost liked the man and girl much better, so now the original step back is the cover, and the original cover is the step back.

I'm not sure I like the guy on the cover. Can't put my finger on it.

I was so excited to see this… but I gotta say, it's not working for me. The Night Huntress covers were much better. He's a little more creepy than sexy… not going to stop me from picking up the book!

I love it! He looks like a VAMPIRE, not that i don't drool over Bones on the cover of the Night Huntress series, but he looks human. Here at least there's something predatory in his eyes.

And he does remind me of the main character in the movie Queen of the Damned… in sexier!
    And OMG…HOT waistband/hip nomnomnomnom

Awesome! I haven't seen this yet. I like it and Spade just looks…well, I'll just agree with everyone else – fierce and predatory. He definitely looks like a vampire and personally, he wasn't how I pictured him but that's okay I guess.
