Nothing sucks the romance out of world travel like a boyfriend who may or may not have broken up with you in a hotel room in Brussels. Jane Jameson’s sexy sire, Gabriel, has always been unpredictable. But the seductive, anonymous notes that await him at each stop of their international vacation, coupled with his evasive behavior over the past few months, finally push Jane onto the next flight home to Half Moon Hollow — alone, upset, and unsure whether Gabriel just ended their relationship without actually telling her.
Now the children’s-librarian-turned-vampire is reviving with plenty of Faux Type O, some TLC from her colorful friends and family, and her plans for a Brave New Jane. Step One: Get her newly-renovated occult bookstore off the ground. Step Two: Support her best friend, Zeb, and his werewolf bride as they prepare for the impending birth of their baby . . . or litter. Step Three: Figure out who’s been sending her threatening letters, and how her hostile pen pal is tied to Gabriel. Because for this nice girl, surviving a broken heart is becoming a matter of life and undeath…

Vampire, Jane Jameson, is on a whirlwind European vacation with her sire, and lover, Gabriel Nightengale. Things are not quite as romantic as Jane wishes them to be though. Towards the end of the second book, Nice Girls Don’t Date Dead Men, Gabriel was always off on suspicious business and getting texts from someone named Jeanine. This behavior continues on their vacation, and Gabriel becomes more distant every day. White envelopes keep showing up at every hotel, and Gabriel becomes more distraught – but refuses to tell Jane anything – and of course she doesn’t ask! Finally, Jane sneaks a peek at a torn letter in the trash can and sees words of love and commitment to Gabriel. After Zeb, her best friend from back home calls and tells her there has been a break-in at the bookstore, that she now owns, she decides to call it quits on the vacation, and to Jane’s disappointment, Gabriel more than agrees.
Now that Jane is back home, she gets a bit jealous that her friends lives are going smoothly. Zeb announces his werewolf bride, Jolene is pregnant, and he becomes more than a little freaked out she could be carrying a litter. Friends Dick Cheney and Andrea have cozied up so much, they are now living together. Jane looks at the t-shirt wearing, immature Dick paired with the elegant and beautiful Andrea, and wonders if they can make their relationship work, why can’t she and Gabriel?
Meanwhile, business in her bookstore is going great, but after the burglary, Mr. Wainsworth (former owner, now bookstore ghost) nephew comes to town, not really thrilled his uncle left all his properly to Jane. He becomes quite an annoyance. Jane is also dealing with the many Courtney’s and the Better Business Bureau. Jane’s lack of enthusiasm doesn’t go over well with the efficient, primp and proper ladies.
When Jane starts receiving threatening letters, Gabriel rushes home to her defense, however, Jane isn’t too sure she wants him there. When the attacks become more violent, the whole gang must band together. Gabriel must decide his relationship with Jane is worth revealing all of his secrets.
Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever is my favorite book of the series, which is saying a lot because I really liked the first two! My only little complaint with the first two books is Gabriel, Jane’s sire and boyfriend. Jane never forces any issues with Gabriel, she loves him, but deep down she feels like she doesn’t deserve him. In this book, it all comes out. They finally talk about everything! She stands up to him, finally about him sneaking around and lying. In the second book we learn that Gabriel is hiding a big secret involving someone named Jeanine, but nothing is resolved. Jane has it in the back of her head that he is cheating on her. As the reader, you know Gabriel is really not cheating on Jane, but you also want Jane to stop accepting Gabriel’s little lies. Their relationship goes on quite the roller coaster in this book, and you will have to read it to see where they land.
Gabriel is gone through the beginning of this book, which gives Jane plenty of bonding time with her best friends Andrea and Jolene. I really like these three together – they all rely on one another to get through the crazy things going on in their lives and the pages of the three of them hanging out are some of my favorites. Andrea, a former vampire blood donor, now working in the bookstore, is living with Dick Cheney, former nemesis to Gabriel, and is always a joking pain in the ass. Andrea has always been so elegant and fancy, and finally giving into temptation with Dick and finding absolute bliss, has Jane quite stunned:
Andrea opened her door, wearing Dick’s “Virginia is for Lovers” T-Shirt and no pants, drinking a Budweiser from the can. A Wrestlemania highlights DVD was playing in the background.
“Baby, who is it?” Dick asked, coming out of the kitchen, wearing one of those beer-drinking helmets, jeans and no shirt.
“I take it back, you are not the same woman I met a year ago,” I told Andrea.
Andrea burped noiselessly under her breath. “I’m aware.”
The humor in this book, and the entire series, is exactly suited for me. I laughed more through this book than I can remember doing with any other one. And the characters are so vibrant, and real. Zeb, Jane’s best friend, and his werewolf bride are still dealing with crazy family members, Jane is still at odds with her “perfect” sister, and Jane’s dead great-aunt is still getting it on with Mr. Wainwright, even though they are both ghosts. And although there are so many funny, light-hearted moments, the romance between the three couples – Jane and Gabriel, Dick and Andrea and Zeb and Jolene, is so sweet that I had to fight to keep the tears back, which made snot come out of my nose, and then the mood was ruined.
Nice Girls Don’t Live Forever wraps up this trilogy wonderfully and I can easily say this is one of my favorite series.

Yay! I am a total card-carrying member of the Jane Jameson fan club!
True, the trilogy was nicely wrapped up – but I think there is lots of potential for more Jane shenanigans and a bigger book deal for Ms. Harper.
Great review – GREAT series!
