Upcoming Historical Romances and Hot New Covers!

January 27, 2010 by Mandi 16 Comments

I had this post all ready just with the historical romances, but then yesterday, four new covers popped up, and since I lurve covers, I am throwing them into this post as well. First up – some historical romances that are coming out in the next few months that have made it onto my radar.

Mistress by Mistake by Maggie Robinson

Mistress by Mistake

Charlotte Fallon let her guarded virtue fall once—and she’s paid dearly for it ever since. She swore she’d never succumb to men’s desires again. But even a village spinster’s life miles from temptation can’t save her from a sister with no shame whatsoever. Or a heart that longs for more, whatever the cost…

Sir Michael Bayard found more than he expected in his bed when he finally joined his new mistress. He’d fantasized about her dewy skin and luscious curves, assured her understanding that what passed between them was mere dalliance. But he didn’t expect the innocence and heat of her response in his arms. Nor her surprisingly sharp tongue once she was out of them…

A few days of abandon cannot undo the hard-learned lessons of a lifetime. Nor can an honest passion burn away the restraints of society’s judgments. Unless, of course, one believes in nonsense like true love…

This one got some great buzz on Twitter a couple of days ago – thanks to @historicals.

A Certain Wolfish Charm by Lydia Dare

image

The rules of society can be beastly-especially when you’re a werewolf and it’s that irritating time of the the month. Simon Westfield, the Duke of Blackmoor, is rich, powerful, and sinfully handsome, and has spent his entire life creating scandal and mayhem. It doesn’t help his wolfish temper at all that Miss Lily Rutledge seems not the least bit afraid of him, and in fact, may be as untameable as he is…

When Lil’y’s beloved nephew’s behavior becomes inexplicably wild, she turns to Simon, the boy’s cousin and guardian, for help. But Simon’s idea of assistance is far different than hers, and Lily finds herself ensconced in his house and engaged to the rogue.

A paranormal historical – what do we think? I like a wolfish temper….

The Summer of You by Kate Noble

Photobucket

Lady Jane Cummings is certain that her summer is ruined when she is forced to reside at isolated Merrymere Lake with her reckless brother and ailing father. Her fast-paced London society is replaced with a small town grapevine. But one bit of gossip catches Jane’s attention- rumors that the lake’s brooding new resident is also an elusive highwayman.
Jane must face the much discussed mysterioso after he saves her brother from a pub brawl. She immediately recognizes him from London: Byrne Worth, war hero and apparent hermit-whom she finds strangely charming. The two build a fast friendship, and soon nothing can keep this Lady away from Merrymere’s most wanted. Convinced of his innocence, Jane is determined to clear Byrne’s name-and maybe have a little fun this summer after all.

Dying for this one after meeting Lady Jane in Revealed.

Too Wicked To Kiss by Erica Ridley

TOO WICKED TO KISS by Romance Author Erica Ridley

Miss Evangeline Pemberton can see the Future. Sometimes. The Past, too, although that tends to be less useful, as she can’t change what’s already happened.

One might think the most irksome characteristic of her alleged “gift” is that said visions are followed by debilitating headaches. Or that they’ve got her running for her life. But no. By far the most vexing quirk is that these fantasies accompany all skin-to-skin contact. Which means she can’t touch anyone. Not even the tall, dark, and brooding recluse in her Present.

Gavin Lioncroft is a wealthy committed bachelor with nothing but time on his hands. Well, and blood. (But he’s not telling how that got there.) And an impromptu house party. (He hasn’t the slightest idea how thathappened.)

His very first night back in the bosom of High Society and the man he threatens to kill turns up dead. Good. The cad had it coming. But just because he’s dodged the hangman’s noose before, doesn’t mean Gavin will get away with murder again. And this time, there’s no fading into the shadows. The only chance of saving his neck is by risking his heart–to the one woman from whom he can hide nothing.

Too Wicked To Kiss already has a lovely review by Smokin Hot Books.

Wicked Becomes You by Meredith Duran

Gwen Maudsley is pretty enough to be popular, and plenty wealthy, too. But what she’s best loved for is being so very, very nice. When a cad jilts her at the altar—again—the scandal has her outraged friends braying for blood. Only Gwen has a different plan. If nice no longer works for her, then it’s time to learn to be naughty. Happily, she knows the perfect tutor—Alexander Ramsey, her late brother’s best friend and a notorious rogue.
But unbeknownst to Gwen, Alex’s aloof demeanor veils his deepest unspoken desire. He has no wish to see her change, nor to tempt himself with her presence when his own secrets make any future between them impossible. But on a wild romp from Paris to the Riviera, their friendship gives way to something hotter, darker, and altogether more dangerous. With Alex’s past and Gwen’s newly unleashed wildness on a collision course, Gwen must convince Alex that his wickedest intentions are exactly what she needs

Onto the new covers!

Inside Out by Lauren Dane

I love Lauren Dane’s covers. It is one of my book resolutions to read her in 2010!! Inside Out comes out this November. Go HERE for an excerpt.

As Lie the Dead by Kelly Meding

Photobucket

As Lie the Dead, is the second in Kelly Meding’s Dreg City series. I think I like the first cover better, but the dude with the wings in the background is pretty cool. I LOVED Three Days to Dead and really looking forward to this one. This book comes out in July.

Catch Me If You Can by LB Gregg

LB Gregg has a new series coming out, Romano and Albright. Go HERE for an excerpt. Comes out March 16th!

Warrior by Zoe Archer

The cover for WARRIOR has arrived!

I love this cover…I think it is sooooo sexy. Hello Indiana Jones! It looks like it will fit the first book in her new series quite well too, from Zoe’s website –

Windswept steppes. Beautifully severe desert. Chases on horseback. Secret societies. Magic and adventure.

Welcome to The Blades of the Rose.

Warrior comes out this September.

I’m drunk off of all the smexy covers. Oh, maybe I should put my wine glass down too ;)

Do we like? Dislike?

I like the sound of the paranormal historical – don't think I've read one before.

I like several covers: Noble's, Duran's, Dane's, Archer's. I dislike Meding's cover unfortunately, even the winged dude. But the model's pose is eye-wincing, especially after the very self-assured one on the first cover. Oh well, you can't win 'em all. What matters is the author likes it, and she'd know more about why it's appropriate to the book. I've got the first book and I'm looking forward to reading it.

I am not a true cover girl. As I have stated over and over I am not easily swayed by a cover. If I want to read a book, the cover isn't what gets me to read it. However, that said, I do appreciate a nice cover!

I love the Dane and Archer covers…love love love them!

The others look great too. The Duran cover is one I see a lot lately (the naked back/dress half open lady) but I do like them.

As for the historical romances. Looking forward to the Maggie Robinson, heard great things about it and I must honor my name-sake and buy+read her book LOL

    Have a great day hon!

I love them all. I'm easy and a pretty, shiny cover will make me sqeeeee and hurry over to buy.

Lovein' the tatoo on Dane's cover.
Always a sucker for the "open back of dress" covers.
I have to agree that Medings 1st cover was better but it won;t stop me from getting the book. :P

Naomi – I love Colleen Gleason's Gardella Vamp series..but I think that is the only real PNR Historical I have read.

Kmont – The girl is kind of funky..I am looking forward to it though!

Pearl – Honestly, if someone is very excited about a book, I will read it no matter the cover. BUT I think covers are very important for those that stand in a bookstore and pick up books at random.

Maggie – LOL…I'm excited to read it!

oooh id heard of some of these, but not the Wolfish Charm one. that title will def stick in my head, and there aren't enough historical paranormals out there. even though the summary blurb doesn't give us too much of a clue.

i am a sucker for wolfish smiles, whenever i read a description like that i sorta ache for that wolfish smile to turn into a love-bite ;)

I've read only one book on this list, Mistress by Marriage by Maggie Robinson and I can't say enough about it. The entire series is just fabulous. I kid you not, I haven't been this taken with a book since Sherry Thomas's Private Arrangements. And if I thought Mistress by Marriage was fab, I'm drooling over Mistress by Marriage.

Maggie is just hitting all the right chords for me. Tension, hot, wonderful conflict, great characters, writing is awesome and gets better with every book. She's my new fave author. :D

I'm swooning over LB Gregg's Cover, Warrior {never read that author} and Lauren Dane. Lauren Dane makes me want to get inked {again}. I'm thinking a phoenix tattoo…

I can't wait until you read Too Wicked to Kiss loved it, obviously. I actually liked it better than Proof of Seduction.

Seriously.. you have got to stop. I think half the books on my To Read list come from you. It's out of control! Several of these look absolutely entertaining and I can't wait to read them.

I was running errands the other day and I saw this totally hot new Camaro. It had a bumper sticker on the back that said "smexy" and I thought about you!
