I am addicted to Twitter. I am not ashamed to say that, even if my real life friends often make fun of me and say things like the only way they can carry on a conversation with me is through a tweet. Ha Ha friends – you are so funny. While thinking about Twitter, I have come to the conclusion, my life falls into three separate categories.
First, my Real Life. This includes the hubs, and the kids, the pets, the household chores. I am fortunate enough to be a stay at home mom (insert whatever phrase you prefer) and this year I have embraced a bit more freedom in my life with my oldest son starting full-day Kindergarten and my youngest son in a part-day preschool program. Hello, quiet house!!! So, it is only quiet for five hours a week, but those precious five hours I covet.
Second, my Blog Life. My smexy life. My blog is a place where I talk about books I loved (or not) and smexy men, erotic sex scenes and covers I want to drool over. I get to read funny and honest comments. This is also the life where I get to visit other people’s blogs that add to my never ending tbr pile. I laugh at their snarky posts and often have envy over their thoughtful writing (what? I have envy…I’m not proud). I love my blog life, and I find it to be an important balance to my – “hey mom, come wipe my butt” life (see above).
Finally, I have my Twitter life. Twitter came about because of my blog life. I joined to start following some of my favorite authors and to promote my blog a bit. Months later, I have almost 14,000 tweets (<—eek) and I follow people that have the funniest, best conversations in less than 140 characters. I have talked to countless authors, which luckily can’t hear my fan girl squeeing through my computer, and countless bloggers, publishers, editors, and just fans of reading on Twitter. It has literally opened up a new world to me. I get on in the morning with my east coasters and international peeps. I get back on during lunch where my west coasters are bleary-eyed and having their first cup of coffee. I get on at night to chat about whatever book I am reading. When people comment on Goodreads, it feeds into Twitter so I can stay on top of who is reading what and how they are liking it. Twitter lets you have numerous conversations all at the same time. For instance, last week I was discussing my love of The Bride and The Buccaneer, while also telling everyone about my chicken patty obsession. (See what you are missing?) You can also set up searches for keywords and receive every tweet containing those words – for example, I have a column for “JR Ward Lover Mine” and “Brandon Flowers.” Anytime anyone tweets with those words, I can see it. Obsessed, who me?
So, what is my point? Ummm…waiting..cause I don’t know what my point is.
No – my point is – if you are not on Twitter, why? Join up – check it out. I can give you a list of excellent peeps to follow. If you have been thinking about starting your own blog, do it! Everyone needs an escape – and those are mine.

I totally agree hon. So happy to have found twitter and blogger in the interwebs. Both always make me smile!

Ditto. I love Twitter. Found so many great new reads and great people (yes I meant you!) to chat with. I never would've found you or your blog if it wasn't for twitter. My favorite thing is arguing with people about books in under 140 charecters. It's made me very creative!
Plus we can't forget the twitter contests author have to win free books, which feeds into my addiction.

Girl, you are too funny! While I absolutely am in love with my blog, I can not see myself twittering… Don't know why… Well, I kinda do know why… Cuz I just dont do a good balancing act. RL, EDJ (evil day job) online and Blogging is enough for this one chick to balance. I bow down to all of you who do it ALL. And envy you speak of… yea, I got it too… to all of you who do it all. But when I get the look from hubby that says too much online time… I know when to draw my line, lol! He lets me smut it up all over my blog and knows when to say "are you coming to bed anytime soon??"
Patti says
I started book blogging for the same reason – to get away from RL, talk about sexy books, and get recommendations. I joined twitter but RL makes it hard for me to be there which is frustrating b/c it's fun.

I agree! Starting a blog was the best thing I have done in a while. You are right, it balances the Mom jobs perfectly :)
I adore twitter, you and countless other authors and bloggers make it a vital part of my day!

Never have a laughed so much by starting a blog and entering twitterverse. Seriously I snort 24/7 now and it's not cute. Sadly this means I don't work out as much so I've gained what I like to call bloggy pounds. Blows.

Okay, I thought you were reviewing a book called My Three Lives. Hee hee….
My confusion is author/reader/reviewer. Sometimes they easily overlap, and sometimes they don't. I am trying to break myself gently of my internet addiction and spend more time writing my book. So far, I'm doing okay, but it's tough.

I feel ya Smexy. My blog, and my twitter keep me sane. How sick is that? lol

It's seems we all run parallel lives. I have a fourth life – work. ugh! LOL!
I really like Twitter also but I don't tweet as often as I probably could. It's a constant struggle with my introvert personality. :)
Love Blogs & Twitter! When I started blogging last year in January, I had about 20 or so books in my TBR. Since then my TBR has grown close to 200!
Donna [F.D. Ramblings] says
Forgot to click follow comments!!
Mandi says
Susi – Yes they do!
Lynette – I know…you are a good example of someone I found through Twitter. And yes, love the contests!
Cecile – Yeah – if I worked in an office all day I prob would not be hanging on Twitter ;)
Patti – I do love your blog ;)
Jacabur – off to check out your blog :)
Mandi says
FV – Wait, you are sane?
Donna – I know, if I worked I would not be chatting away. And want to know a little secret – I think I am an introvert. At least in RL..I'm shy – for real!
Erotic Horizon says
Fun Post…
As long as you are loving it – that's all that matters..

Really!?! I never would have guessed that you were shy in RL. I envision you being the life of any party. 'Cuz your tweets are definitely not shy and so much fun to read. ;0)

I so agree. I frequently find myself thinking, What would I do without the blog and the twitter? Glad I'm not the only one.
Twitter rocks.

This is me: No! I'm not going to join Twitter!
See how paranoid you've all made me. Whenever someone mentions it, I automatically think it's aimed at me. There is no hope for me. I have tweet anxiety.
Twimom227 says
Oh isn't it true?! We have so much in common… The same age kiddos, I am mostly SAHM (but went back very p/t this fall), we both LOVE LOST!!
So I joined twitter as a leap from Facebook, but soon realized that Twitter is much more FUN! and once I let go of the need to "know" someone that "followed me" or for me to "follow" I started meeting so many wonderful people like me – that's how I discovered you! and from there, I started reading all of these blogs. NOW I even have my own baby blog. With time and energy, it will grow, too.
Thanks for the fun! Oh, my mom calls all of you "friends" my cult. Oh well, she's missing out on the fun!

'Smexy life' – because we can all use a little Smexy now and then :)

Great post, Mandi! I think all of us(or many at least) needs an escape from the real world. My escape is in books and online, like you.
I think it is great being able to meet people with a mutual interest. With my blogger friends/twitter buddies I always find people willing to discuss books, I don't have all that many to talk books to IRL. I can talk and share books with my little sister since we share taste in books and both read in English(but most of my friends don't so many of the books I read aren't that easy to share either).
It's addicting =)
heidenkind says
Yay! I never would have even known about your blog if it weren't for twitter, so I definitely agree. :)
