In this fourth in Spear’s werewolf series, Private Eye Cameron MacPherson and forensic scientist Faith O’Malley are both on quests that lead them into the world of magical wolves, mystery and murder.
Cameron arrives in wintry Maine to search for his partners in his P.I. business who are late returning from a hunting trip, and runs into Faith, there to locate her ex-boyfriend who stole her father’s research. But Cameron and Faith instantly are attracted to one another and keeping their business on a strictly professional level doesn’t have a snowball’s chance of succeeding in a toasty fire-warmed cabin, the couple snowbound and the setting perfect for an unplanned tryst.
Together, the two tumble into an icy world of mayhem where myth, legend, and reality merge, changing their lives forever.

Faith O’Malley is on a mission to get her father’s stolen research paper back from her boyfriend – well, let’s make that her ex-boyfriend because she is certainly not going out with him anymore. Faith has no idea what is on this hard drive chip that Hilson Snowdon stole, but she wants to recover it for her father. In northern Maine, on her way up to find Hilson, she stops at an inn, and is given the wrong room key. When she barges in the door, she finds Cameron MacPherson, fresh out of the shower, with a devious smile. She finds him very attractive, but is exhausted and just wants to find the right room to get on with her journey.
Cameron is a private investigator in town to talk with the owners of Back Country Tours to get insight into two of his missing coworkers and friends. The friends had gone on a hunt and haven’t been heard of in some time. With the rough, wintry conditions, it is hard to communicate, and Cameron wants to make sure everything is alright.
After some discussions with Faith, he realizes they are there to talk to the same people. They head deep into the wilderness to find answers, but their lives are about to take a surprising turn. They not only are in search of friends and enemies, but their attraction goes into full swing and arctic wolves become a common theme.
If I had to rate Legend of the White Wolf on purely the romance between Faith and Cameron, it would not get a very high rating. The actual love scenes are pretty well written and steamy. My grudge comes with Faith and Cameron’s interactions. When Faith first walks into Cameron’s hotel room unknowingly, they almost act as if they have known each other for some time, rather than strangers. Cameron immediately flirts, which I can see, Faith is a cute girl. But that same night, Faith thought she was being stalked, and here she is in a stranger’s hotel room and never asks what he does for a living, or who he is and she ends up hanging out watching a movie with him. Her immediate trust didn’t sit well with me.
Arctic wolves take the stage in this book, and the wolves themselves and their descriptions were fascinating and you could tell a lot of research went into their story. The leader, Kintail is a very interesting character whom had a fun side story. At first you don’t know if he is good or evil, and it was fun unraveling his character.
There are some big twists and turns in this book so I really can’t go into a lot of the story – I will say, the action scenes were well written and that kept me intrigued throughout. Like I said, the romance I felt was the weakest part of the book and I also thought Cameron’s and Faith’s discovery that werewolves exist was a little non-believable. No panic, so stress, just an eager acceptance of a supernatural power.
Legend of the White Wolf is a middle of the road romance and while I liked the book, it didn’t blow me away.

I have 3 of Spear's books on my TBR shelf. I've tried to read 'Heart of the Wolf' but I keep stopping-and-starting. I will get around to it eventually, but it's like you said – middle of the road romance and it's hard to get stuck into it.
