Penelope Zenelli is married to Roman. From the outside they look like the type of family any congressman like Roman would be happy with, he has a gorgeous wife and a beautiful baby girl. But who really knows what goes on behind closed doors?

Roman has been abusing his wife for years. When he turns his wrath on their three year old daughter Anna, Penelope decides enough is enough and it is time for her to leave and do what is best for her daughter. Using the money from the sale of her jewels and her trust fund, Penelope buys a new identity for herself and her daughter making them Abigail (Abby) and Katherine (Kate) August.

In the dead of night, Penelope dresses her young daughter and disappears from Roman’s house and takes up the mantal of Abby August a widowed woman with a 4 year old daughter Kate.

5 Years on….

Abby has successfully evaded being found by Roman for the past 5 years through sheer determination and being careful. Abby expanded her qualifications by taking a degree in Psychology and using her maiden name to prevent detection. On Kate’s new birth certificate she is a year older than she really is and has started school. Abby works at night taking calls from people who seek professional help through a phone service and has built up a good client base. She relies on her pyschic ability to help her advise these people and she finds that it helps them a lot using her degree she plans to take a masters and has already started some research for it. Working the night shift is starting to take its toll on her as Kate gets older and wants to do after school activities so she plans on changing her shift to days to be able to do the best for her daughter.

Kate is a great kid if a little over protective and worries a lot about her mom. Abby hopes that she got Kate away from her abusive husband in time and that it hasn’t left a lasting impression.

Roman meanwhile is furious that Penelope left him, took his young daughter, a quarter of a million in jewels and millions of dollars of her trust fund. He is a man that does not take being made a fool of publically well. The time has come in his career that he needs to project a good family image if he is to succeed in making it from congressman to Senate. He wants to marry the society babe he has been seeing and get his daughter back. To do this he must find his estranged wife and their daughter.

He hires Matt a private detective to find Penelope and Anna. Matt succeeds in finding them, but what he finds is not what he was told by the congressman he would find and he has a conflict of whether he should turn Abby and Kate in……

The story is full of twists and turns with serial killers and a story that will keep you up into the early hours till you finish this book. I didn’t want it to end. Judi McCoy is a new to me author and she is definitely one I will be checking out again.

Rating 4.5/5

Thank you Amanda! The book does sound good, but I'm not sure about the psychic angle…is it a big part of the book? (I'm just one of those weird people who doesn't like mixing her genres :)

    Thanks everyone!

Orannia, it is a fundamental part of the story but I didn't feel like it was thrown in my face a lot it sometimes came to her as more of a gut feeling at times. I would be a person who is not normally into a psychic story.
I think you should give it a try and I think you'll really enjoy it! Hope that answers your question if not I'll try again!
