Why I read: Author asked for review.

Favorite Quote: Vane’s mouth tipped up in a sneer in response, making him look a  lot like a Billy Idol on steroids.

Vampire Gabriel Forrester is on a mission from the High Council to track down missing vampire Marina DeMornay. She is being held captive by the vampire hunters, deep underground the city of Palermo. Gabe and Marina have quite a history – they were in love, but Marina, being the descendent of an ancient family, had to choose duty over love. Even though Gabe turns into a vampire, hoping that would seal his fate with her, she still chooses to marry Niccolo, at one time Gabe’s best friend who turns out to be a very cold-hearted person. Now he is dead, and she is at the hands of very evil people. The council, afraid she may give secrets under severe distress, sends Gabe to go get her.

Marina is weak, but no fool. Once she is convinced Gabe is not working for Nick’s people, she still has no desire to go in front of the High Council. But she needs help escaping, barely able to walk on her own. She figures Gabe can bust her out, and then she can find a place where neither Nick’s men nor the High Council will bother her. But, being together brings back past feelings on both sides. When they break out, Marina informs Gabe of a secret – and the adventure begins.

A Vampire’s Mistress packs a lot of punch in such a short story. We not only have a romance between Gabe and Marina, but substantial back story and some great action. I would have liked to see a little more spark between Gabe and Marina after they are finally able to be together. It takes Marina time to trust Gabe,  even though she is the one that left him to begin with and it would have been nice to see her a little more excited to have Gabe in her life. That being said, the sex scene is hot, and the confrontation with the villain plays out well. Vane, a cohort of Nick’s shows up and adds an extra spice to the villain role.
If you are in the mood for a quick, paranormal romance, this one is for you.
