Favorite Quote: "My demon’s a GIRL?!?"

Gideon is the keeper of the demon Lies. Everything he says must be a lie or he will suffer unimaginable pain.  Scarlett is the keeper of the demon Nightmares. While she sleeps her demon infiltrates our deepest darkest fears and feeds off them. She is the ultimate weapon that everyone wants to possess.

When Scarlett is "captured" by the Lords of the Underworld to stop the hunters from getting to her, Gideon is immediately drawn to her. Then Scarlett drops a bomb on him; she is his long lost wife. And even the demon of lies can’t tell if she’s lying or not. But regardless of what she says or doesn’t say, Gideon wants her. But as they sort through the lies and the truth, will their love be enough when everything Gideon holds dear is threatened?

I have to say that this is Gena Showalter’s best LOTU book to date. A solid five stars. More upbeat and fast paced then her last book, it grabs you and holds you captive for a wild ride. There are three actual story lines that intersect and and give some much needed answers to the past, present, and glimpses of the future.

Gideon meets Scarlett towards the end of The Darkest Passion. When he sees she has the same tattoo as him in the same place he needs to know more. Who this woman is and how she does fits into his life? But Scarlett is angry and hurt.
She cannot believe Gideon has forgotten her and her pride and heart demands revenge. As the two of them begin an intricate dance of seduction and pain you are blow away by the feelings and depth to Gideon.

Since we really don’t see or hear a lot about Gideon in the previous books watching him come to life in this story is a fascinating treat and a testament to Ms Showalter’s incredible word building skills.

The smexy scenes are cold shower worthy and have earned Gideon a spot on my book boyfriend list forever. I really liked how gentle he was; even though he has no clue to what is going on. He’s operating completely from his heart and it’s so damn romantic.

Scarlett is woman after my own heart. She is a bad ass with a vulnerable side that immediately drew me to her. Her love for Gideon shines through her need for revenge and as you glean a deeper understanding you are amazed at her fortitude.

The dialog between the two of them had me laughing out loud through out the book. Between his "Gideon speak" and her constant translations we are treated to a rare glimpse of what life with Gideon must be like. And it’s VERY funny. Even though there is a lot going on Ms Showalter manages it all with incredible ease and you don’t feel overloaded or rushed.

I won’t give away anymore because I really want everyone to read this book with fresh unsullied eyes. But I will add that the ending blew me away and left me panting for her next book-The Darkest Secret-due out in 2011.

If your looking for a hot, steamy, enticing, suspenseful PNR then look no further because the Lord of the Underworld are the hottest smexiest men out there.

Hmm. I'm on the fence about this one. Mostly because scenes with Gideon and his backward-speak have always really annoyed me about this series. But I love the LOTU, and if you think this is the best book to date, I need to give it a serious re-think then.

    Great review, Tori!

Was there mention of Paris and his on going angst over his mate that died? I so want his story badly.

I'm surprised that Darkest Passion was up on Netgalley but not Darkest Lie. :(

Kati-The Gideon speak was a tad strange at first but after a little bitI didn't even notice anymore. I was translating in my head. lol

Kati-Babs-The Darkest Lie gives us the heads up on a lot of open questions. We learn things about Paris, Sierra, William, ect… It's jammed back with goodness.

Pam-SQUEEEEEE I can't wait for you to read either. We gotta get Mandi to read this series.

    Great review Tori,

I was counting the days to read Darkest Passion and was a bit disappointed with the story. I was going to put Darkest Lie on the back burner, but you've just convinced me to move it up the list. *runs to Barnes & Noble*

I can't wait to get my hands on this one, I loved The Darkest Passion, cried like a baby… Aeron is on my top list of hot, hard and sweet. The bad thing is that we're going to have to wait untill 2011 for our next fix… Now, I wish I was Mandi so I could have a chance to read them all for the first time again… *sigh*

Tori, thanks, this is a great review, I’m getting all the books in this series, because I like all the Lords.

I think we’re only two more books from getting Paris’. At least that was what Gena Showalter said, when I asked her.

    This was her answer:

Paris will probably have a book after Strider, who will have a book after Amun, who will have a book after Gideon.

My guess his will be the last in the series, I cannot wait to see how she wrote it.

This book was awesome, I read it over the weekend and couldn't put it down! Gideon is one of my favorite characters in this series and I wasn't sure I was going to like Scarlett, but I was wrong, she was great.

    Great Review!

The Darkest Kiss was the first book of Gena’s that I read….and I fell in love by the first paragraph. After that, I’ve been getting all of Gena’s books that I can get my hands on, and I can’t get enough! Gena, you are absolutely amazing, and thank you SO much for the wonderful stories you give us!
