Smexy’s Top Ten – June 11th

June 11, 2010 by Mandi 22 Comments

10. I’m back for a second week! Go me! School is officially out which means the children are officially bored. My hubs has decided on a spur of the moment to rip our deck apart and a gazillion ants have come into my house to make their home. Oh yes, summer is here.9. Carina Press, the digital only branch of Harlequin is now officially open for business. I have yet to crack open a Carina book yet, but I do have four or five reviews scheduled in the next few weeks from various authors. Pearl is also having a Carina Press week at her blog with some great reviews and giveaways but hurry, it ends soon!

8. Covers! Some great new covers have been popping up lately. Look at that intense stare from Mr. Crazed Hearts. RAWR! He is saying, “Smexy, I have dirty things planned for you.”  Katiebabs also had a nice cover post a few days ago.

BDB029.jpg picture by mschreiner7. JR Ward update – not a ton of new info out but she has said she has finished writing Crave (please be better than Covet, PLEASE!) and she is currently writing Rhage and Mary’s novella and outlining Payne and Manny’s story. The next title should be coming out soon.

Bonds of Justice (Psy-Changeling, #8)6. Nalini Singh has a big Q&A post going on at her blog. Lots of good questions and responses by Nalini. If you are a fan, be sure to check it out. I was able to read an arc of Bonds of Justice coming out next month featuring cop Max (good friends with Clay – my fav!!) and Psy Sophia. Great addition to her Psy/Changeling world. One of my favorite series. Review to come next month.

Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1)5. For years I have been trying to get my hubs to read one of my books. If it is not written by Stephen King or displayed on the television while playing XBox he wants nothing to do with it. BUT – my nagging gentle persuading finally wore him down and he started Moon Called last month. It took him awhile to actually get into it, but yesterday morning I knew it was getting serious when he was late going to work because he had to finish a chapter. Even better, that night, as he was reading he looked up and said, “wow, I really like Warren.” WHAT? WHAT? Be still my heart!!! I can actually sit and talk to hubs about one of my favorite books. Should I tell him Adam is number three on my boyfriend list? That might be pushing my luck ;)

4. Book Blogger Appreciation Awards has rolled around again. This year the submission process is a bit different. If you want to be eligible to win an award, you have to post links to your five best posts that represent whatever category you want to enter. Go HERE for all the rules. You have until July 7th. You also can register to vote and not submit for an award…it’s a tiny bit confusing, but if you follow read through the rules, it gives you a pretty good idea on what to do.

3. The blog I am pimping this week is actually an author blog – The Scribbling Ninjas. Written by Moira Rogers (Bree and Donna), Alisha Rai (“New to me author” that I love, reviews of her books are coming next week) and Keith Melton (author of Blood Vice). This is a very laid back blog and one that always makes me laugh. They do interviews with other authors, talk about their upcoming books and random silly posts that I love. Even better, follow these four on Twitter – their sense of humor will definitely break out a laugh.

2. Registration is open for the Authors After Dark convention being held in Secaucus, NJ September 16-19. Hosted by Jacquelyn Frank many other authors will be in attendance that weekend. Registration is now open. Go HERE to learn more about this event.

1. True Blood this Sunday!! If it was up to me, I would kick Bill and Sookie off and just have the Eric, Pam, Lafayette, and Alcide show. Oh Alcide, please live up to your smexy promo pics, you scruffy man. And grow some chest hair!

Happy Friday :)

Was thinking the same thing – wolves are supposed to be hairy!

The Mercy Thompson series is one that my husband follows (also the Sookie books, Rachel Vincent's Stray series, and one more that I can't remember…).

BTW, NJ RWA has their conference Oct 21-23. I know Meredith Duran, Sherry Thomas and Joss Ware will be attending. I've gone 2 years in a row and it's a lot of fun.

OH MY GOD YOU GOT YOUR HUBS TO READ MOON CALLED?!!!!! That is effing awesome!!! Yeah I am gonna have to go with a No on telling him that Adam is your number three boyfriend :P

HOOfreakingYAY for Bonds of Justice, omg since you were status updating while you were reading it this month, I am so freaking excited to read it. Clay is my faaaavorite too so I'm excited to learn more about Max!

And JR Ward finished Crave? I am with you, sister. PLEASE make it as good as the cover! LOL Or at LEAST better than Covet!

And last, but certainly not least — I have to give a major shout out to You and Bells for getting me COMPLETELY obsessed with Joe Magnanehalhdo (I can never remember his last name!) AKA ALCIDE. I had serious reservations on whether I was going to watch this season just bc I've been so letdown by the last two seasons (I'm a huge fan of the books tho)… But I am going to watch because 1) Lafayette and 2) Alcide. This Joe guy is SEX ON A STICK and I haven't even seen him act!

Thanks for the hot photo – now I'm off to cyber stalk him.

I know – I always type in Joe Man..g..and hope google leads me the right way. I've only read first three Sookie's so I'm don't really know Alcide through the books. I was def disappointed towards the end last year but excited nonetheless!

I'm shocked the hubster is reading Moon Called :)

I'm still unable to "gently persuade" my husband to read any of the books I read, but he did write a 'guest post' for my blog that I'll be posting soon. It's a step in the right direction…lol

Great post Smexi! I know how you feel about the ants. We had in our house and they were living in the front wall of our house. Hubs knocked the whole thing down, killed them all, and then put the new wall up. The suckers are gone! Pray for me that they won't come back.

I can't wait for True Blood as well! Alcide!!! Whooo!!

Correct me if I'm wrong (usually I am) but is the new m/m book Life After Joe by Harper Fox being released under Carina Press ..? (KC too lazy to look it up on Goodreads & relies on Mandi for all her book info)

Great job getting the hubs to read Moon Called (one of my favs)!

I got my husband to start reading Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series and he has liked it a lot – maybe you can get your husband to try that one next!

IMO, Crave HAS to be better than Covet because that was one big letdown after having been a fan of the BDB since the start. I'm willing to give JR Ward one more chance to interest me in the fallen angels, but it is make it or break it time.

Thanks for the hot picture! That is one smexy wolf – hair or no hair!

    Good luck with the ants!

I'm in the middle of Covet right now and I'm really liking it. I've heard so-so/ugly reviews, but the plot is kinda cool (of the entire series, at least). And, she's just starting to OUTLINE Panny/Mayne? :(

I can't wait for Alcide! SEX ON A STICK!
