Favorite Quote: "So, anyone have any questions?"

"Yes. Why do hot dogs come in packages of 10 while hot dog buns come in packages of 8?"

Harry Dresden is a professional wizard who has unimaginable powers, has saved the world umpteenth times, and has loved and lost.  Yet he still can’t pay his rent on time. So when his young friend Thomas asks for Harry’s help concerning a friend…Harry can’t say no. But he’ll wish he had. For Harry soon finds himself waist deep in vampire politics again; having to pit his magic and his friends lives against those who want to see him dead for good.

Blood Rites is the sixth book of the Harry Dresden files. Filled with Harry’s signature quick wit and Butcher’s fantastical world building, this urban fantasy detective story takes Harry on a journey that challenges his perceptions of the past and future.

When Harry is asked by Thomas to help him out, Harry says yes because Thomas has done a lot for him in the past. Harry soon learns that Thomas’s friend, a porn movie mogul, seems to be suffering under a death curse. Or is he? Death surrounds him from all sides but it’s his cast who is dying. When Harry arrives on set, he realizes that the White vampire court is involved. Succubus vampires that drink feelings instead of blood to survive; they seem to be more part of the problem then the solution. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Harry kind of day of he didn’t have at least one or two past enemies gunning for him. The Black Vampire court is back with a vengeance and they want Harry out of the picture for good. As Harry attempts to help Thomas’s friend and stay one step ahead of everyone else he gets some help from some unexpected people that change his life forever.

I thoroughly enjoyed this foray further into Harry Dresden’s life. Butcher takes more control of Harry’s life and forces him to set roots and confront his past. We learn some interesting facts about the various Vampire courts and Harry’s ever confusing relationship with Det. Karrin Murphy. People from Harry’s past come to visit and Harry learns quickly that some things are better left unknown.

Butcher is a master of misdirection and subterfuge. When your so sure you know the outcome, Butcher flips you around, sending you on a wild thrilling oft funny ride to the end. Non stop action, intriguing story lines, and lovable characters that intertwine and explode at the end of each book is what will keep me loyal to this series long after Butcher stops writing it.

If your looking for a powerful dark urban fantasy that promises an excitable read but delivers so much more then look no further then the Dresden Files. The overall story arc in this series is quite pronounced so I recommend starting from the beginning with Storm Front.

My mom was telling me there was some sort of kerfuffle on Amazon reviews where people were saying Butcher was past his prime or some such and getting into a war of the intrawebz about it.

Anyway, that's all I know about this book. :)
