Layla is walking on dangerous ground. Her brother has been kidnapped, and her only option to save him is to give into the blackmailing air demons. She has found herself working undercover with the blood demons, trying to uncover information to secretly give over to the air demons and get her brother back. While undercover she meets the blood demon, Gethin. He makes it very clear that he wants Layla, but she knows she can’t let their attraction get out of control, always wary of her undercover status.  A very sexy demon, who she soon finds out is much more than just a blood thirsty, violent man.

When the air demons are mistakenly alerted that she may be in trouble, a portal is opened and a blood bath ensues. Her cover is blown, and Gethin is not a happy demon. But Layla will do anything to keep her brother from harm.

Break is a novella, but Tarra Blaize really sets up a full story – and even has time to give us some sexy romance scenes. I immediately fell for Gethin. Layla describes him as a demon with a “moral code.” He is definitely a demon not afraid to violently torture people to get his way, but he has a conscience up there somewhere, and he turns into a hero you start rooting and lusting for. He has that low, gravely voice that promises naughty deeds, and he is definitely not afraid to let his attraction to the heroine be known.

I also liked Layla, although at the beginning I have to say I was confused about exactly what she was and was doing with the blood demons. I wish a little better explanation or background into Layla’s character had been given. The present day action is described well, but it was hard to wrap my mind around everyone’s motives in the beginning. But once we get into the story, she is a tough cookie.

I can’t go much more into the story without giving things away – but there are some cool twists, and a nice ending.

I like Tarra Blaize’s voice and look forward to more of her in the future.

Rating: 3.5/5

I'm loving the cover. Gethin sounds like a really good character. My novella list isn't that long because I like a little more meat to my story but this sounds good. Great review.

Sounds like a good one! I like when an author is able to make a novella seem complete.

Blodeuedd – Yeah – I don't know about the cover either. But the story is good :)

I'm always torn about covers. There are some I sorta like to look at, but wouldn't carry on an airplane with me. :)

I have bought a few novellas on amazon, and then been disappointed with the length. It's good to hear this one has some depth to it.
