What Happens at RWA 2010…

August 5, 2010 by Tori 22 Comments

… will get blogged about. LOL

Hi, this is Tori! I decided to go to RWA 2010 this year since it was practically in my back yard. I went to a similar event 2 years ago but it was not even CLOSE to the size of this event by a long shot.

Here we are driving towards Orlando. J and Mar are both texting. *Iz skeered*

We arrived at the luxe Swan & Dolphin resort at Disney. WOW! This place is freaking NICE!!

I got a little overly excited when I got there.

Here is Nalini Singh’s butt. :) She’s on the left.

This place was packed!! And the fact I hate large crowds did not help me in anyway, shape, or form. But I held my cool and no one got the stink eye for touching me. lol. I talked with Fiction Vixen about it and we both agreed I should have brought a port-a-couch to hide behind.
See, I am a very shy person-think Kenny Chesney’s song, “I’m so much cooler online.” Going to something like this was a major deal for me. It’s funny but it never occurred to me I would have to actually talk to anyone. I have never sounded so asinine in my entire life.*sigh* Thankfully these people will never remember who I am. If anyone does, I’ll deny it.

The first author I met was Shiloh Waker. She is sooooo nice and cool. I picked up her book The Missing and got it signed. I also read it in about 2 hrs. Fab book! Can’t wait to see if this goes series.

My second author meet and greet was Jeaniene Frost. Fangirl squeee!!!  She signed my book and told me that she is thinking of doing a short story on Kira and Mencheres because they were so fab to write. See my precioussss? Signed with MY NAME? Are you jelios? You should be. :)

As I wandered around trying to avoid total meltdown I saw so many of my, dare I say it, idols? Authors that I grew up reading. People I honestly never thought I would see much less meet.
Mary Balogh,Jo Beverley,Stella Cameron,Christina Dodd, Brenda Novak,Carla Neggers,Amanda Quick, ect...
I also missed some of my favs-Stacia Kane and Larissa Ione. *sob* Probably for the best though. I’m sure the SQUEEEing would have resulted in someone having to bail Tori out Disney jail. Don’t laugh-they have that.

Here is a pictorial of my little adventure.

Victoria Dahl. Check out the FAB shoes. Too cute!
Ava Grey
Kelly Armstrong
Vivian Arend (I look drunk but I swear I’m not)
Jennifer Echols with her teeny weeny tiara. lol
Cynthia Eden- who is freaking adorable.Srsly. She talked to all her fans like each and everyone of them were her bff’s.

Nalini Singh. This time I gots her front this time. :) And SQUEEEE she recognized me from twitter. *swoon*

Sherrilynn Kenyon
Nora Roberts

I couldn’t get close to those two. They were in the separate “special” area and by the time I had worked my way to them they had a line 2 miles long. My feet hurt too. *whining*

I also met Michelle Rowen who is a LOL trip and Molly Harper who has to be the sweetest, nicest person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I wanted to scoop her up, toss her in my tote and take her home with me. I think I scared her a little but she didn’t scream for security so maybe not.
Molly did tell me that there just may be a 4th Jane & Dick vamp book. LOL I love calling them that. But I did get a copy of her And One Last Thing that I totally enjoyed reading.

I have to say I throughly enjoyed the trip and watching Jay and Mar was hilarious. Following them around was like being in a pin ball machine. We “pinged and bonged” all over the place.

So that is my trip to RWA 2010. Next time I go I will be much better prepared. Comfortable shoes, water, my Blackberry, and a sign that reads-“I am socially inept- please bear with me.”

~Tori

I live in FL too so I went to the RWA signing. I have to say I freaked out when I saw how many people were there and all those tables were so overwhelming! But it did kind of calm down once it started.
I missed SHiloh Walker and I'm so bummed!! Met Cynthia and I agree she was just the NICEST person!! Also met Jeaniene (she was my first stop!) – soo nice. They all were.

The only down side?? I spent waaaay too much money :-) But it's for charity so it's all good :-)Here's a link to my RWA haul. http://www.fwiwreviews.net/2010/07/rwa-author-signing.html

OK I love this post so much. A lot of us who know you ladies from Twitter and the Blog were living vicariously through your experience, and to be able to see pictures and hear how it went is so awesome!
I love Nalini Singh, she is so freaking adorable. And I am just now reading Deadly Fear by Cynthia Eden so I am familiar with her. Some of these authors I've not read, but I just love that they were all so kind and enthused to meet their fans. I have the Demon In Me now by Michelle Rowan so I can't wait to see her. Bummer about Sherrilyn Kenyon but I guess she is a Super Star now, like Nora, huh? Can't wait to check out a Molly Haper book too.
Thanks for sharing your experience and the awesome pics – I love you three and am happy for you that you got to go together!!!!

I went too and I had a fantastic time. I'm also a bit shy and don't like large crowds, and I had to go all by myself. But I was determined to have fun and I did. I kept handing my camera off to people I didn't know to get my picture taken with people, including Jeaniene Frost, Anna Campbell, Christina Dodd, and Eloisa James. I met and talked to at least 50 authors, and there were still so many I missed. When I saw a line, I usually moved on, hoping to come back later. When I got to Jeaniene for the second time, she had no line and only two books left, and I snagged one of them. So ha ha, I got one of those signed dealies too, LOL.

Reminds me of the convention here in Columbus earlier this year and the line for JR Ward was way long – but did get to meet her, with about 20 minutes to spare in the signing….I was going to go when it was planned to be in Nashville which is only about a 4 or 5 hour drive….

BTW, it is Brad Paisley not Kenny Chesney who signs I am soo much cooler online…

Wow, so exciting! Thank you for sharing your trip! I'm on the west coast and it seems every author type convention happens from the midwest over to the east coast. Nothing near here! So good for you for conquering your fear of crowds and getting in there and doing it!
