Dylan Ivory is an erotica writer who needs to interview someone in the BDSM world for her next book. At the recommendation of a friend, she meets Alec Walker. Besides being a writer himself. Alec is an experienced dominant. He loves to travel, and seeks thrills. Dylan is thrilled herself to have met him. He turns her on and there is a very intense chemistry between them from the first time they set their eyes on one another. Alec suggests Dylan actually enter the BDSM world for herself, to fully experience the lifestyle, preparing herself for her book. Dylan is surprised that Alec thinks she will submit to him. She sees herself as independent, and in control. She scoffs at the idea of submitting to anyone. But Alec reads her and can tell from their first meeting she needs to submit. Up for the challenge, Dylan agrees.

Pleasure’s Edge is the first book by Eve Berlin, which is the pen name for Eden Bradley. This book definitely has its steamy moments, with a very dominant hero Alec. He teaches Dylan to submit, even though it goes against her nature. Dylan throws him though – he is not used to being so infatuated with someone. He likes to play, then walk away. He can’t walk away from Dylan. There are times in the book he can’t even make it home without turning around.

There is lots of naughtiness with spankings, dirty talk and a BDSM club called The Pleasure Dome (Love that name). While sex dominates this book, we also dive into the characters backgrounds and analyze their past and present behavior. I didn’t love Dylan –  she just didn’t have a ton of personality. I liked progression from refusing to believe she was a bottom, to her eventual love for Alec. But I also think she was missing that spark that makes characters come off the page. She was just kind of boring.

Alec is a thriller writer, but his career never comes into play. His character actually doesn’t feel like a writer and I kind of wish that his world was explored more rather than just Dylan’s.

So overall, I liked Pleasure’s Edge. A little predictable, but a nice mix of plot with hot smex that will keep you turning the pages.

I really like a dominate hero and have enjoyed a few Eden Bradley titles so maybe I'll check out her work as Eve Berlin.

Why is it that the characters are lacking but the hot smex is great or visa-versa when it comes to a BDSM novel? Why can't we get both? *stomping feet and pouting*

@Artemis – Have you tried Cherise Sinclair? or Melinda Barron? They both have super hot smexing and pretty in-depth characters…

Thanks for the review. I am interested in reading some "light BDSM" erotica to see what the "fuss" is all about, but it looks like maybe this one is just so-so. Can you recommend another book by this author – or another – that you have enjoyed?
