Having lost everyone in her life and with nothing else to lose, Meeraj goes to the BDSM club, Midnight Playground with one thought in mind – to submit to a vampire. Finally granted permission to enter the club, Meeraj sees the three hundred year old vampire Aleron having his wicked ways with another man, and she knows he is the one that will dominate her. Aleron can bring out the perfect amount of pain and pleasure and as she watches him work and play, this intense connection binds the two of them together.

Aleron fell deeply into love long ago, but his love refused to be turned. He watched her age and die, and cannot bear to go through that again. But he takes one look at Meeraj, this cool, collected human and he knows he may have met his match. The Bloodsong is like music in the veins, something only vampires can hear during intense BDSM play – yet, Aleron hears it with Meeraj in the room. He is shocked since Meeraj is a human. As they take their turn together, and explore their D/s relationship, Aleron must face his fears of falling in love, and Meeraj must decide what her future holds.

Bloodsong is quite a short book that really punches in the sex scenes. It starts right off the bat with a very nice m/m scene while Meeraj sits back and enjoys. Smexy approves. Eden Bradley writes very hot sex scenes and although the entire book is pretty much sex scene after sex scene, she keeps each one fresh and hot.

I definitely felt more connected to Aleron rather than Meeraj. Aleron is so scared to fall in love again after losing his mortal lover a century ago, yet knows that is right where he is head with Meeraj. Being the dominant and always appearing in control, not being able to control his feelings for Meeraj provides a nice contrast to his character.

I wish the vampire/human relationship would have been explored a little more with Meeraj. She is thrust into the vampire culture and transitions quite easily. I actually think the vampire culture is barely touched upon and building up that part of the world would have added to the story. Along the same lines, Meeraj makes a big decision at the end of the book which I felt is very rushed.

Although the world falls a little flat, Bloodsong provides very hot BDSM sex scenes and a sprinkling of M/M romance to add extra spice.

I love stuff by Samhain publishing and am going to have to remember this when I need a little spice!

One thing I hate about novellas is that they are never long enough to explore everything properly.

I'm picky about my novellas because I like there to be a little more depth in the story. I won't lie though, the m/m scenes sound really hot and I have a weak spot for vampires who have had heartache. Thanks for the review Mandi.

I like Eden Bradley's work–she is a good writer, but like you, I sometimes feel that a novella isn't used well. It is long enough to allow exploration and development of characters and often, in the name of erotica, that is not done. Unfortunately, IMHO, that just hurts the story. Leave in the erotica, but tell is a little more about the people involved. Thanks for a very good review.
