Author Nico Rosso is visiting Smexy today and talking dirty! Take it away Nico.
Valentine’s Day is just a couple of weeks away and it’s time to try something a little different. A good meal can be very erotic. Scented candles are nice and the sound of sensuous music can do something to the body. Let’s go a little further. Let’s talk dirty.
In those radio call-in shows and on TV and in self-help books, they often talk about communicating in the bedroom. Open things up, they say. Express your needs to your partner. But it isn’t always that easy. People can get hung up or a bit embarrassed with the frank talk. I’m all for open communication, but if it seems a bit intimidating, turn to the experts in romance. Romance novels.
Read aloud.
Share the romance with your partner. The dialogue is already written, the characters are defined and the action is bold. You can read to each other, or have one person do all the reading while the other person listens.
I understand there are a lot of romance novels that aren’t meant to be shared. They’re personal journeys between the reader and the characters as created by the writer. So selecting a book to read aloud might take some time. Make sure it’s something you don’t mind sharing. And make sure it has the kind of plots and characters that would be appealing to both people reading.
My Sci-fi romance novel, TAKEN TO THE LIMIT, has a tough-talking space commando, a strong Earthling woman and plenty of action (including laser battles and the sexing). There’s something for everyone. Reading aloud will get you both into character and you can act out the adventure. There are a lot of other books that balance action and romance as well. Check out my wife, Zoë Archer’s, the Blades of the Rose series or Ava Gray’s Skin series, just to name a couple.
And don’t worry about it being a performance. Relax and have fun with the words. There’s no pressure to act it out perfectly. And the di alogue is already written, so you don’t have to come up with the right thing to say at the right moment. Let the book do most of the work and you get to reap the benefits. Because even if someone else wrote the descriptions or dialogue, they will still be spoken in your or your partner’s voice. The intimacy is yours to share.
Valentine’s Day is a good place to try new things, but reading aloud doesn’t have to be a once-a-year occurrence. Who knows, you might find yourself reading romance novels differently. Some for you only, and others to be shared with that special someone.
QUESTION: Would you consider reading any of your romance novels aloud with someone, and if so, would you have any requirements as to the subgenre of book?
TAKEN TO THE LIMIT is published by Liquid Silver Books and can be found HERE or on Kindle.
Today, Nico is offering an E-Book of Taken to the Limit to one lucky commenter! To enter, just answer his question above. Contest open through January 29th.

I absolutely love reading out loud. It helps me concentrate and better understand what I'm reading. Plus it's just fun!
My ex was never a big reader but I did somehow get him to start reading by going back and forth reading out loud together. I thought it was awfully cute and I got to him to actually read so it was pretty amazing! I think the first book we read together was The Pact by Joi Picoult. And then we moved on to Dracula by Bram Stoker but never finished. I have an eclectic taste in books so any genre would have done… we never got the chance to try romance though. Would have been pretty interesting to see what happened lol
I don't know if anyone I'm friends with now would want to read with me. They are all poor sports! I'd definitely love to do it again though.
Thanks for the giveaway =) Taken to the Limit sounds great! I definitely need to start adding some sci-fi reading into my diet.

I read aloud to my hubs sometimes if we are in the car..I read him Mind Games by Carolyn Crane that way – but we also have kids in the car – LOL. Sooo…it can be a bit tricky ;)
I also enjoy reading him a crazy explicit scene just to get a reaction out of him ;) Best to stick with a UF for him.

My husband and I used to read to each other when we were first dating…never a romance novel though. I think it is time to revisit reading together. I think my husband would prefer a contemporary or maybe a scifi erotic story…at least, I hope he will. I'm so excited by the possibilities! So glad I read this blog!

No. No reading out loud. I can just picture my hubs with 'deer in the headlights' eye. You know, maybe I will give this a try just for kicks. hehe.

I most likely would not consider reading a romance out loud with someone, mostly because I think that romance novels are just a fun and entertaining to read by yourselves. Plus in my experience, usually the love scenes make people nauseating. But if I had to choose a genre for the book, it would definitely be paranormal romance.
Thanks for entering me in the giveaway,

I love reading aloud and often do so when I'm alone. I would love to read my books to my husband but he wouldn't enjoy that – his loss.
I basically read paranormal romance, that is what he'd hear if he'd listen ;).

First of all, the name Nico Rosso sounds like a killer bottle of wine…great name! Very sexy. 2nd of all, my husband would rather have a red hot poker stuck in his eye than have me read romance out loud. He hasn't even read any of my books yet. And probably never will. 3rd, for some inexplicable reason I am becoming obsessed with sci fi erotica, and the premise for this book sounds very appealing to me. Alien sex! Who knew!
Nico Rosso also sounds really good if you say it out loud and roll the r's. hee hee
Ciao!

I adore the idea of reading aloud – particularly a romance – with my husband, but the reality just always makes us giggle. Yes, we are forever 12.

I don't really like reading aloud. Especially the smuttier stuff, I just blush and get all school girl nervous!! LOL Only silent reading for me!!

Not sure I could read a whole book out loud with someone but it is kind-of "fun" when my husband flips through one of my books and reads a passage or two to me ;-)

Nope, no way. When I read, I'm on a trip in my mind to places unknown and
reading or even speaking out loud stops that dead in the road. I do read out loud to my granddaughter, does that count?:)

I wouldn't read aloud but I wouldn't mind listening to someone else read. If it's a romance with explicit scenes, though, I wouldn't listen to anyone I know read it. It would be too awkward.

since hubby and don't like the same type of shows I doubt he'd like my books. Paranormals and scifi is not his thing. Now the romantic suspense I might if he'd sit still long enough.

I think reading a romance novel out loud can be a very erotic experience. I don't think it can be done on a regular basis, that way it doesn't get boring, but I can see using some of them for a nice spice in the love department. I don't think I'd have any real preference on what kind of romance is read I think it would just depend on the mood. Some can be used for role playing like the extrem erotic romances and some can be used just to get some ideas of new things to try in the bed room and to romance each other a bit. I think that who reads it can also be dependent on what the couple is feeling at that time, sometimes reading back and forth could be the answer but sometimes just one of the significant others reading it would be sexual.
Wow, I wasn't expecting to talk that long! I write this in more of a suggestion for others and what I would do in the future since I'm single right now so I don't have anyone to read to or with!
Thank you Nico for the wonderful opportunity to receive your e-book of Taken to the Limit! It would be my first romance novel written by a male author which really excites me! :-D
