Treachery In Death by J.D. Robb (In Death #32)

I’m happy to have the Roarke lover, Claire from Ramblings of a Book Bitch back to guest review the next J.D. Robb book! Claire, take it away.
Favourite Quote: "You can take me home and fix me up. Because at the end of the day, you’re what does. You’re what fixes me up"
Treachery In Death by JD Robb is book thirty two and sees Eve tackle not an unknown suspect this time but someone she knows, a fellow colleague. A crooked Lieutenant that has a whole teams worth of crooked cops willing to commit murder for her, even when that murder is Eve Dallas. Treachery shows Eve bring her own task force team together, to outwit the crooked and to clean house in the police force.
My thoughts:
My Christmas came early when Mandi asked me to review another In Death book for her blog, much smooches to her for giving me my Roarke fix, I’m always a happy girl when I have an In Death book in my hands.
With each book the premise changes, sometimes we don’t learn right until the last chapter who the murderer is, and then Robb changes it up and lets us the audience into the secret telling us who the villain is. On a rare occasion like with Treachery, Eve right from the first few pages knows who her suspect is and is hella pissed to discover there is a fellow cop who is so crooked she would use her own team to line her pockets, bending the law to her own gain. Renee/bad cop is, in a word, a bitch. Her and Eve together on the page was engaging to read. I love watching Eve bait the bad guys, most times she ends up with her face bruised but she gets her results.
Anyone who Twitters with me knows I adore anything In Death (do i need to insert a Roarke swoon here so you’ll know my dedication?) so you will understand it pains me to admit this book didn’t blow my skirt up. Sigh. It truly pains me, because this series is right up there on my top three – I gulp them down like it’s my favourite chocolate (are you thinking of Chocolate covered Roarke now too? hah!) but I can honestly say, for perhaps the first time ever i was..bored through sections of this book.
Sigh. (I’m going to be doing that a lot) I’m not sure if it was knowing just who Eve was going after that made it slow, it just didn’t seem to have any punch in the entire storyline.
Yes it had its usual players doing what they do best, we saw a few old characters come back, namely Webster, an ex lover of Eve’s who had a smack down with Roarke in an earlier book. (that fight was SO hot!) Dr Mira did her psychology, Chief Whitney, Peabody, McNab, Feeney all worked the case doing their thing. Roarke was tossed into the mix helping out, but it felt like he was just slotted in. I saw no real reason for him to be involved in this case.
Sigh. (I told you) I expect a lot from my In Death’s. I want fast, furious, nail biting, with thrilling murders, evil villains, and some romance and emotional turmoil and tender moments thrown in too. This one just fell a little flat for me. While it had the same character flow, i wished the story had been…more.
I think i’m miffed too that there isn’t much ‘just Roarke‘ time. Yeah. So Miffed. Huff. How is a girl supposed to tender to her addiction?!
For Any In Death fan I would still say read it, it’s not my favourite but it’s still always lovely to visit these characters and it hasn’t dampened my need to read the next book in any way.

Hi Claire! Hi Mandi! As you know, I am the sole member of the I-Do-Not-Love-Roarke club. It's a very lonely club. (After reading just the first book of this series). #32????? Are you freakin' kidding me? No author should have a series that long. There is no way in holy hell to keep the magic burning that long (I didn't even feel the magic after one book, but that's just me evidently).
So, I have to ask. Did Roarke put out a bottle of wine to breathe? hee hee…sorry, that's so mean…..

I haven't even started the series yet. I'm thinking this might be a series I do on audio although it might break me with 32 books so far LOL. Nice review!
