Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century, and a lover in another…
In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon–when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an "outlander"—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord…1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire’s destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life …and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire…and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
It has been twenty years since Outlander by Diana Gabaldon was published. Wow!! It is one of my favorite books. I think I was in high school the first time I read it and it was the first time I truly became obsessed with a book and a….fictional man ;). Jamie Fraser…oh Jamie Fraser. One of my favorite virgin, kilt-wearing, heroes to ever read about.
"Does it bother you that I’m not a virgin?"
He hesitated a moment before answering. "Well, no," he said slowly, "so long as it doesna bother you that I am."
He grinned at my drop-jawed expression, and backed toward the door. "Reckon one of us should know what they’re doing," he said.
The door closed softly behind him; clearly the courtship was over.
Take me now Jamie!! Wait – we need more….
“Does it ever stop? The wanting you?” His hand came around my breast. “Even when I’ve left ye, I want you so much my chest feels tight and my fingers ache with wanting you to touch ye again.”
Diana Gabladon has wrote seven books in this series although I’ve only read the first four. I become too involved in them emotionally can’t make it through more than four. One day I will read the entire series!
So tell me – have you read Outlander? What were your first impressions? Have you continued on with the series? Do you have a favorite moment?
To celebrate the twentieth anniversary since Outlander was published, I have a copy of Outlander to giveaway!
To enter, leave a comment. Open to US/Canada through March 5. Please leave a valid email address.
He is not a virgin for long, haha!
I have read Outlander and fell in love with the story and characters to the degree that it is still one of my favorite romances of all time. Though I had been aware that there have been several books in the series, I was only able to follow the first 3. The favorite moments you list are some fabulous ones. One of the phrases from the book that made me smile was Jamie making love "with unbridled joy" …if I am remembering it correctly. Has been a bit since I last read the book.
20 years! I'm a little behind. I will read this this year. I will! It's a favorite of many people I know, including you and my Aunt.
Oh, dear lord. I only just read this book last year because of all you Jamie fans. I had to see what the hype was all about. He is well worth the read, that is for sure! I dare say this is my fav quote. :)
"Not yet. We’ve time. And I mean to hear ye groan like that again. And to moan and sob, even though you dinna wish to, for ye canna help it. I mean to make you sigh as though your heart would break, and scream with the wanting, and at last to cry out in my arms, and I shall know that I've served ye well."
Hot. DAMN. I really need to read more books feature Scots.
Now I feel better that someone has admitted they didn't read the books yet. I must have been living under a rock to have missed these books for so long. I wouldn't have heard of them if I hadn't been asked to promote Outlander this month.
Thanks for the nice feature today.
Cheryl
I LOVE Jamie. Love him. love him. :)
My mom passed on this book to read and I agree that he too was one of my first fictional boyfriends.
Only read the up to 4th book too.
I haven't read Outlander yet, as I usually don't like historicals. However, since everyone loves Jamie, I would love to be pleasantly surprised!

I own a copy of this book, but only this one. It's so daunting. Teeny tiny print and about 1000 pages. I WANT to read it-I know I'll probably love it. Maybe one day-hopefully.
I haven't read this series. Jamie sounds swoon-worthy for sure! Will go check to see if it is available for Kindle.

Don't enter me…just wanted to say thanks for reminding me I really need to finish this one.
I am like you – I got so emotionally involved in the books I felt everything too acutely. I could only make it through 3 because I just care so freaking much!!! (I guess it doesn't help me with the emotional distance since my name is Claire.)
Have not read Outlander.

If you're a fan of the OUTLANDER series, please visit my blog, Outlandish Observations, for the latest news and information about Diana Gabaldon's books. I try to keep it as up to date as possible.
Favorite moment? For me, the wedding scene in OUTLANDER, closely followed by the reunion in VOYAGER.
If you haven't yet read any of the OUTLANDER books, I highly recommend them!

Oh Jamie….swoon! I have read the whole series and have laughed, cried more than I can count.
I think my favorite moment is in Voyager, when Claire goes back to find Jamie.
""You’re real," he whispered. I had thought him pale already. Now all vestiges of color drained from his face."
Now I want go get the all and read them again!
I have never read this book but after this review, I really want to.

Oh wow, you were in high school when you first read it? I can't imagine being a Jamie addict for that long – I'm still a relative newbie, only five years of reading and rereading these books so far… Love Lord John too [g]
I haven't read Outlander yet either, but it's definitely on my TBR list. So thanks for the chance to win a copy! :)

Holy crap I didn't realize this series first came out 20 yrs ago! Wow I was only 10 yrs old..lol!
I'm hanging my head in shame and admitting that I have not read the Outlander series. I'm not sure why since I'm usually all over a man in kilt. I think it's the whole time travel thing. I've never been a fan. A virgin hero! Nice!
I would like to win check out what all the hoopla is about. Thanks for the opportunity Mandi! :)

I read the first one, but no more. I loved Jamie! The story just seemed to epic with no end in sight. I can't take that much angst with no end in sight.
