Get Lucky is the second book in Lorie O’Clare’s Bounty Hunter series. Centering around the King family and their business, King Fugitive Apprehension (KFA), this story picks up sometime after Play Dirty ends with Marc King arriving in Colorado for a much needed vacation. Feeling the after effects of their last case which included not only his father’s kidnapping but being reunited with his mother who he hadn’t seen in many years, Marc heads to a Colorado ski lodge for some much needed downtime. He just wants to get out of LA, relax, decompress and if he happens to find a woman willing spend time with him, well that’s just a bonus! That woman comes in the form of London Brooke, who happens to work at the lodge Marc is staying at. Marc is immediately attracted to London, but London has her own secrets, and she’s not willing to do anything that might risk the security she has made for herself these last three years living and working at the lodge.
We learn early on that London has had a less than stellar childhood and when she begins to receive photos of her parents with cryptic notes that mean absolutely nothing to her, she worries that her past might be catching up to her. In the mean time, Marc continues to pursue London, she just can’t help herself and she agrees to have dinner with him. It’s clear that London is much more than just a “hook-up” for Marc and what follows for them relationship wise is very predictable.
When Marc gets a call from his brother that his parents have been kidnapped he leaves Colorado without a word to London and heads back to LA. He and his brother, Jake, are able to decipher clues based on some photos they received and plan to follow the trail laid out by the kidnappers. When Marc finally contacts London to explain his sudden departure, she breaks down and tells him about the photos she’s received. They realize that the photos they’ve each been receiving are identical in nature and the coincidences are overwhelming.
What follows is a game of cat and mouse as Jake, Marc and London follow the clues and head to Arizona in an attempt to locate their respective parents. Characters from book one are mentioned throughout this book but with little information and the references to “The Game” may be confusing for those who did not read book one. While referenced and clearly an important part of this plot, I don’t feel that we learned anything new regarding “The Game” and are still in the dark as to it’s importance to the story other than the fact that it exists.
The main characters are well written and very likable and Marc and London’s relationship is believable. And while the ending was a bit corny, we do get our HEA. The next book is Jake’s story and because Jake has been depicted as a major “player” I look forward to meeting the woman who is able to change him. Maybe we’ll finally learn what exactly “The Game” is all about.

Thanks Tori! Lorie O’Clare has quite a back list, but I’d only read three of her books when this new series came out. I really liked the rom/suspense trilogy I had read prior, so started this one. IMO, it’s not on the same level. I’m determined to see it through if only to understand what the heck this “Game” is.

Thanks Aurian. Yes, there’s suspense and action, but nothing feels resolved and this is the 2nd book. I’d have like just a hint more to keep it intriguing.

Thanks Blodeuedd! Yup, a bit of everything without overwhelming-though, like I mentioned above, a little more insight or forward movement to the overall plot line would have made a big difference in my final rating.
I like Lori O’Clare but this is a different kind of series than some of her paranormal books. I haven’t read Play Dirty yet but am hoping to soon. Enjoyed your review and appreciate some of its insights. I think it will help me when reading the first book. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks ! I read Play Dirty a while ago and honestly don’t remember details. There’s a lot of set up and introduction like you might expect in a first book. I really enjoyed her previous rom/suspense series (Tall Dark & Deadly, Long Lean & Lethal, Strong Sleek & Sinful) but this on is lukewarm in comparison.
