Larissa is known for romance. She turned an online romance column into a job for Cosmopolitan Magazine. But she now has her sights set on opening a retail store where books, movies, music and everything else a woman would need for romance could go – and she knows just the space. The Cartright Hotel has one opening left in its ritzy retail space, and Larissa wants it, badly. She meets with Conner Cartright who is not only part owner, but a childhood friend who has kept in touch. She actually broke up with her fiancé Jason two years ago, because he thought she was having an affair with Conner.
Unknown to Larissa, Jason also has his eye on this space for his Can-Do adventure travel company. With his brother set to get married and leave the business, and a mother in an assisted living center, Jason needs the mass promotional appeal Cartright hotel can give his company to keep his costs in line. Conner feels bad about what happened those couple of years ago and sets up a surprise meeting with Jason and Larissa as they both make a play for this space. When the power goes unexpectedly out, Jason and Larissa get trapped in the future store for the night. Luckily, Larissa has a bag stock full of romance items for display that get put to good use.
Just For The Night takes place – well, just for one night and a lot happens relationship wise in such a short period. Larissa and Jason have a lot of trust issues to overcome based on their past relationship. Jason was very jealous of Larissa’s friendship with Conner and walked away without communicating with Larissa. In these hours they are locked in together, everything gets hashed out. It is heavy on the sexual overtones. Every glance, every movement, every sentence seems to be filled with overflowing lust between these two. Since Larissa had brought in merchandise to show Conner, they have condoms and chocolate body paint to make the night much more enjoyable. Throughout the night they make out, then go back to serious talking, then make out again. The make out sessions are pretty hot and the overall tone of the book is very light. The characters are easy to like, even if the set-up is not quite my favorite.
I would have liked this one even better if all of their problems had not been 100% resolved by the end of one night together. On the road to happiness, sure. But to declare love and marriage after one night locked in a mall is a little too abrupt for me. Otherwise, this is light, cute and sexy.

Sounds sexy enough, but I shy away from these “shorts” for the very reason you mention in your last paragraph-I just find them too short, often rushed, and not “fulfilling” for me as a reader. The premise seems fun though…

Thanks for the review. I would agree that solving everything in one night stretches the bounds of believability ..

Yes I agree, it seems to easy too easy to solve all the problems in one night.
But my expectations aren’t that high for novels- I know it’S prejudiced but I seem to never get more than a fast hot read. *shrug*
Thanks for the review.

Thank you Mandi. I too agree that solving everything in one night seems a bit far fetched and…I like things to happen slowly :)

Great review Mandi. I too have a hard time accepting everything can be resolved in one night.
