Zoey Tyler has had it with big city life. As a journalist, she’s had to report on many tragedies. After a particularly difficult incident involving the senseless death of a child, she’s had enough. She moves to the small village of Dunvegan, taking over as editor for the town’s newspaper. She just wants some peace and quiet. Unfortunately, her whole world is about to change.
Connor Macleod is the town veterinarian and a changeling. As a changeling, Connor has the gift of foresight. Late one night as he’s driving home, exhausted, hungry and in need of sleep, his senses go off and he knows that something is wrong, someone is in danger. Following the “feeling” he comes upon a woman attempting to fight off a wolf. She’s crawled on top of her car and is fighting with everything she has. Scaring the wolf off, he approaches the woman and realizes its Zoey Tyler. He helps her down and examines her leg and realizes that she’s been bitten. Connor knows that in order to stop Zoey from being affected by the bite, he must apply silver nitrate onto her wounds. He convinces her to let him drive her home so that he can take a look at the bite, do some first aid. Zoey is hesitant but in the end she agrees and Connor is able to apply a dose of silver nitrate to her wound and hopefully stop the inevitable.
Connor knows who the rogue wolf is. Bernard Gervais is not a part of the pack. Older than dirt, Bernard has never been one to conform to pack politics. He’s a lone wolf, but now he’s gone too far and pack or not, he must be dealt with. Unfortunately, Bernard has other ideas. He’s got plans of his own and his plan involves outing the pack, especially Connor Macleod.
The romance between Zoey and Connor is charming. We watch them struggle with their feelings for each other. Zoey is ready to go for it, but each time they get close Connor backs off. Zoey doesn’t understand and is frustrated. Connor is freaking out because he’s having trouble controlling his wolf whenever Zoey and he get too close. He doesn’t realize it, but Connor’s inner wolf has already chosen Zoey as his mate. It takes the very wise pack leader Jesse, to make him see it.
One thing that was never resolved to my satisfaction was why Bernard Gervais was so pissed off at Connor Macleod in the first place. Why would he risk himself and others by outing the pack? It was made clear that Bernard was very old, and that he was not part of the pack by choice. But we were never really given any reason for his animosity toward the pack and especially the Macleods.
Changeling Moon is a very nice, feel good, read. The characters are likable and the author writes with just a little bit of humor. As the first book, we are introduced to many of the pack members, including alpha leader Jesse and her husband Bill. We also meet Devlin and Cully, Connor’s twin brothers. There is a lot of detail as the town and its people are described, but it moves well. There are even a few surprises that came out in the end. Up next, the story of James Macleod, Changeling Dream.

sounds like a good old fashion PNR read and I too love to have a little humor. I have recently come out of the woods as a shifter lover so this would be my kind of story.

Thank you Helyce, for a lovely review and for the time and effort that went into it. I’m so glad that you enjoyed the story. As a writer, I often learn quite a bit from reviews — scenes that worked and didn’t work, places where the story was strong and spots where it was a bit shaky. It definitely makes me a better writer for the next book! I’ll have to go back and check what Bernie’s problem was — I suspect that a scene that might have explained it more was cut from the final manuscript.

Wow! Hi Dani! Thanks for stopping by. Yea, the Bernie thing-unless I completely missed something -I couldn’t quite grasp why he hated them so. It’s not like Connor was alpha. It was clear Bernie was power hungry and that maybe he saw Connor as a huge roadblock toward that success, but the “why” of it left me wanting more.
