Smexy’s Top Ten–August 26th

August 26, 2011 by Mandi 53 Comments

10. My Week – We had an earthquake here on the east coast! Damage – some lawn chairs fell over. No, but seriously it was kind of freaky. I’ve never been in an earthquake before. My whole house just….shook. Apparently that’s what houses do during an earthquake ;). I didn’t like it. I have new respect for those that live in California or other places where quakes are prevalent.

dark fever9. BIG NEWS – Take a deep breath and gather round…Karen Marie Moning announced today on her Facebook Page that there will be FIVE MORE FEVER BOOKS! Give me a moment while I breathe into a paper bag.

OK – details from KMM: “I’m currently working on a trilogy that features Dani, Christian MacKeltar, Ryodan, and the mysterious ‘Dancer,’ set primarily in Fever-Dublin. Each installment in the trilogy is a stand-alone mystery, however there are larger plot arcs unfolding in the background.”

I’ve agreed to write two more books after that. Once the new trilogy is complete, I’m returning to the core story begun in the FEVER series, and will resume writing about Mac, Barrons, V’lane, Cruce, the Unseelie king, the concubine, the Song of Making.

Are we excited Fever fans??  Read her entire announcement HERE.

Also Variety announced last week that Dreamworks has acquired the rights to Karen Marie Moning’s Fever series. From the article:

“No exec has been assigned to oversee the project yet, though it is envisioned as a potential live-action fantasy franchise.”

IF this actually happens, what do y’all think? My first reaction is – no, no, no!! Is there really someone out there that can play Barrons? The casting of this movie alone will take years from my life. Can this series be portrayed on the big screen? I have the nervies about this. I don’t like it.

8. Good news! Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane, book one in her Downside Series in just $.99 for Kindle and Nook! (and Sony and prob other places) You can actually get all three for $11. As I always say – I read book one and thought, hey pretty good. And then I read book two (City of Ghosts) and thought – O.M.G. SO GOOD. The hero’s name is Terrible and he is pretty awesome. The heroine, Chess is a drug addict, but you root for her – not to necessarily overcome her drug addiction, but to survive in this crazy, dark world. Book 4 comes out early next year – so get reading!

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Heat Level: 3

Word Count: 14, 760

ISBN: 978-1-926950-68-6

Editor: Marie Buttineau

Cover Artist: Dara England7. Last week, I read a review of Intimate Friends by Claire Matthews at Fiction Vixen. I read the words – friends to lovers and that the hero is a beta math professor and decided I had to read this novella – I love nerdy heroes. My mini review:

A friends to lovers story, that is really cute. Both Noah and Emma are quite shy and quiet. Noah is recently divorced and Emma has just come out of a long term relationship. Both teachers, they spend a lot of time together at the same school – and both pretty much have eyes for the other.

I think this book could have been much cuter if it had been longer. The conflict rests with the fact that Emma has an opportunity to go study in England. Once they tumble into bed (where Noah isn’t quite as shy – Rawr) Emma is then unsure if she should go. I just think it needed more pages for this uncertainty to be explored.

Otherwise, this is a cute, quick book (47 pages). I will definitely check out this author again. (Goodreads, Amazon)

6. Let’s reminiscence for a moment. Claire (@SparklyBearsy) tweeted a passage this week from Ceremony In Death by JD Robb (book #5) that just made me smile, and sigh and be all book happy.

For once, he slept first. She lay in the dark, listening to him breathe, stealing a little of his warmth as her own body cooled. Since he was asleep, she stroked his hair.

“I love you,” she murmured. “I love you so much, I’m stupid about it.”

With a sigh, she settled down, closed her eyes, and willed her mind to empty.

Beside her, Roarke smiled into the dark.

He never slept first.

Is Roarke not the best hero ever? LE SIGH!! I love him. Claire will be back in a few weeks with her guest review of the next release, New York to Dallas (book 33!)

And if there are any romance fans out there who have never met Roarke and Eve, go buy Naked In Death this instant! ;)

5. Rumor has it that we will get our first glimpse of The Hunger Games movie footage this weekend during the MTV Video Movie Awards. This is one book to movie deal I am excited about!

4. I saw Conan last weekend. I was ravaged by his 3-D moobs. Who knew there would be so much violence in this movie? But I’m happy to report the moobs made it through unscathed. (Unlike Game of Thrones! SOB)

Now what do I have to look forward to? RDJ in Sherlock Holmes 2? Well of course. But there must be more. Tell me.

3. Now these are the type of engagement photos the hubs and I should have taken! Zombies!!! Go HERE to see if they make it out alive. I love :)

2. Fun news! The Pioneer Woman is getting her own show on The Food Network. It premieres tomorrow (8/27) at 11:30AM.  Who is Pioneer Woman you ask? She is Ree Drummond, who has a fantastic blog. I go there for her fab recipes, but she writes about how her life went from city girl to “in the middle of nowhere”  cattle ranch, with her hubs “Marlboro Man” and her four kids. It’s a really fun blog and I’m looking forward to her show.

1. My Weekend – Hurricane Irene looks like she will bring us some rain and wind on Sunday. Which means I need to charge up the Kindle! This weekend I’m reading Ghost Soldiers by Keith Melton and Untraceable by Laura Griffin. Happy Friday!!

An earthquake and a hurricane? Jezz… Good luck Mandi, mother nature can be a bitch sometimes.
Fever… I’m happy about the book news, a little nervous about the movies, I just hope they stay true to the story, and maybe cast Henry Cavill as Barrons? =)
I’m starting to worry about The Hunger Games movie, look at that picture, they look like a couple of turists doing a jungle safari, they don’t look hungry at all…
Conan is not out here in Brazil yet, but soon, I heard that Momoa is going back to film conan 2 any day now. Hope he could go back to the GOT set instead…
    Good Luck with Irene!

Well, looks like I better get my a** in gear and get cracking on the Fever series. Here I thought I had all this time because the series is over I could read “when time permits”. Ya right! JD Robb-geesh, this is one series I never started, but I swear after reading that quote, I want to glom all of them and read one after the other; but 33 books? Seriously?

I hope Irene is kind and doesn’t cause you to loose power or anything. Sounds like good reading time, though.

I may have laughed a couple times at the way some people were reacting to the earthquake over on the east coast. We get worried when it’s a 6.0+ but then again we consider a storm to be some rain and it dipping below 50 degrees….

I loom forward to what KMM dishes out for Dani, Christian etc. How KMM is going to dodge the YA vibe in the stories is beyond me…is she going to set the stories up on the future? Argh, I’ve got a plethora of questions now, but excited & looking forward to the stories. I still have Shadowfever to read *bad me*

Anyhoo, good luck on surviving Irene! :)

I am very worried about the Dani books. I have never been a big fan of hers. And the idea of a teenager in a triangle with a 20-something year old Christian and a thousand-something year-old Ryoden is highly squicky for me. I was hoping for a big time jump. Or for Moning to stick Dani in Faery long enough to age a bit and come back to present day. Or something.

I’m so excited about THG movie, I might even force myself to record MTV on the DVR. (No way could I bear to watch without the comfort of a fast-forward button.)

This is going to be a big issue I think – I thought she might skip into the future, but if she is “straddling the YA line” – that must mean Dani is still….youngish.

I dunno….hopefully we will learn more details soon!

Yes – DVR that sucker! ;)

I finally saw Conan in all of its 3D moobfestivus but am still perplexed by the barbarian’s fantastic dental plan coverage and access to laser teeth whitening?

The thought of some actor trying to play Barrons gives me the dry heaves kind of nerves.

One of the biggest draws to the Fever series, for me, was the tension between Mac and JZB. Hopefully we won’t lose that type of tension with Dani being so young. And how will it work with both Christian and Ryodan in the series? And Dancer too???

I think I may be the only person on the planet that didn’t feel the earthquake or it didn’t reach Georgia like I thought since it hit Alabama.

Conan: terrible movie. lots of pretty. Worth the money.

Speaking of movie adaptations, I am pissed that Marr’s movie got shuffled around because apparently Hollywood doesn’t do many original movies anymore.

Next weekend I shall be at Dragon*Con, staring at the various pretty and going to the Writer’s Track.

And finally, I think I might be the only person on the planet who was underwhelmed with The Hunger Games. I’ll have to see it with a friend, but it’s not a first choice or even third.

Girl we feel for ya on the earthquake thing! We live in California right next to a fault line. (San Andreas Fault) The last big earthquake we had, guess where I was? Yes, on the potty! The whole thing shook and I was screaming! Our town is also sinking from the earthquakes that hit all the time. We just had a sink hole open up a few weeks ago and an oilfield worker got sucked into it and boiled alive. It is scary here! So trust me when I say that they aren’t fun!!
