Welcome to Authors in the Spotlight for AAD 2012.
Today we are spotlighting the very talented author Kristen Painter. A jack of all trades, Ms. Painter has tried it all from maitre’ding at Wolfgang Pucks to selling for Christian Dior. The two-time Golden Heart finalist now lives in Florida with her husband and many feline kids. You can also find her at Romance Divas.
Ms. Painter’s previous works include several in the romance genre, but this year, Ms. Painter is stepping into an urban fantasy series that has readers buzzing with delight.
When asked what character she would take with her to New Orleans (where AAD is being held) and what she would do, her answer:
I’d have to say Mortalis. He’s a shadeaux fae and a one of the quiet, deadly types you shouldn’t take your eyes off. He knows New Orleans well, has family there (although his relationship with them is tenuous at best) and can handle more than his share should a fight erupt. As for what we’d do, I’d have him take me to La Belle et la Bête, the oldest othernatural bar in the French Quarter. You can read more about this mystical joint in book three of the House of Comarre series, Bad Blood.
Her House of Comarre series includes:
Blood Rights
October 1st, 2011, House of Comarré series #1
Born into a life of secrets and service, Chrysabelle’s body bears the telltale marks of a comarré — a special race of humans bred to feed vampire nobility. When her patron is murdered, she becomes the prime suspect, which sends her running into the mortal world…and into the arms of Malkolm, an outcast vampire cursed to kill every being from whom he drinks.
Now, Chrysabelle and Malkolm must work together to stop a plot to merge the mortal and supernatural worlds. If they fail, a chaos unlike anything anyone has ever seen will threaten to reign.
Flesh and Blood
November 1st, 2011, House of Comarré series #2
With the ring of sorrows still missing, and the covenant between othernaturals and mortals broken, Chrysabelle and Malkolm’s problems are just beginning. Chrysabelle still owes Malkolm for his help, but fulfilling that debt means returning to Corvinestri, the hidden vampire city neither of them is welcome in.
The discovery that Chrysabelle has a brother could mean reneging on her promise to Malkolm, something that might make him angry enough to loose the beast living inside him. And fulfilling her vow could prove devastating for Chrysabelle — especially when you throw in power hungry witches, dead fringe vampires, and the Kubai Mata.
Bad Blood, December 1st, 2011
House of Comarré series #3
Samhain approaches, bringing with it the final melding of the mortal and othernatural worlds. No one knows just how much power the night holds…
Violent murders occur in Paradise City as counterfeit comarré are systematically hunted. The police and the Kubai Mata have more than enough trouble to keep themselves occupied. As war erupts at home, Malkolm and Chrysabelle head to New Orleans to recover the Ring of Sorrows. Chrysabelle is forced to make a life and death decision and will realize that her relationship to Malkolm may have fatal consequences.
The clock is ticking . . .
Out For Blood and Last Blood are due out in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

I’m having a love hate relationship with Urban Fiction. So far it’s been really hit or miss with me. But this sounds like a series I might be interested in.

I totally fell in love with the covers. While they say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, most of us do. There have been some raunchy covers on good books that I’ve passed up till I read great reviews, but the Comarre covers are just excellent and inviting.

Wow! I just found your page! Sooo Cool! My grandparents are from eastern Europe, near Romania. They believe in the cold ones. I even have a newspaper article about a family in Romania that dug up their relative whom they believed to be a vampire, cut his heart out, burned it and mixed the ashes with liquid to drink; to protect them. Can’t wait to read the book!
