Favorite Quote: “You smell like beer, look like stray dog. “
Gerry Lawson, our hero, is a slightly befuddled forty year old who can’t understand why his relationships eventually turn into UFC matches. When he overhears three older jaded men describing the perfect relationship, he can’t help but listen in. The key, explains these men, is that you need to lower your expectations. Find someone just grateful to be with you and your set. When Gerry heads to Thailand to try out this formula, he learns just how wrong these three old men are.
Once in Thailand, Gerry and the misguided old coots visit all the usual hangouts. Strip clubs and bars; hooking up with anything that will give them the time of day. After one such bender, Gerry meets Kinlaya. He soon finds himself falling in love and handing over his atm card. The trips to the strip clubs and bars stops as she maps out his life with the skill of a 5 star general. His friends began to give him grief as his beer drinking and round buying time becomes shorter and shorter. In one scene, the terrible trio are giving him some grief when he wants to borrow a few dollars (baht) for a beer.
“Say, you guys don’t happen to have a few baht you could loan me, do you? I seem to have left my money back home.”
“Vhere?” asked Fritz. “In the jar with your testicles?”
Gerry begins to wonder if the guys are right, especially when the Fazis (feminist rights activists) invade Thailand and his happy home. When Kinlaya makes noises about him sharing the work load, (like a responsible adult), Gerry does what any scared male does, he runs. What soon follows is a hilarious well planned lesson in woman rights and payback that had me rolling and smiling in appreciation.
R.L. Silver is a master of dry, sharp wit and humor and it is readily apparent in his newest release-My Third World Girlfriend. Having read his first one, The Princess and The Penis, I knew I was in for a treat when offered this one for review. A short hilarious satire about love, loss, and forgiveness. Even at only 30 pages long, Mr. Silver has written a full bodied story that wraps everything up wonderfully. I love how likable Gerry is dispute his juvenile expectations towards relationships. He has some growing up to do; especially when it comes to women. His friends are really terrible old coots and give some of the worse advice I’ve ever heard. Gary does his best despite it and soon learns what’s really important in life. I have come to discover that R.L. Silver’s books are well worth the money spent on them.

Only 30 pages! I really have trouble with such short books! It takes longer to write a review, than to read them. But, it does sound fun.
