AAD Spotlight: Lara Adrian and Giveaway

January 23, 2012 by Mandi 56 Comments

Lara AdrianContinuing our Authors After Dark Spotlights, today we are featuring Lara Adrian. She published her first Breeds book, Kiss of Midnight in 2007, and tomorrow will release the tenth book in that series.

Lara Adrian’s Breed series is a dark, convoluted PNR world filled with non stop action, blood curling suspense, and hot smexy characters that will hold you hostage to the very end. The Breed is a group of otherworldly warriors, descended from aliens who landed on our world thousands of years ago, who have chosen to stand between humanity and rogue breeds who prey on those weaker then they. Imbibed with powers that are determined by their genetic similarity to their ancestors, these warriors have a similarity to vampires but only in the fact they require blood to live. They have a strict code though that they NEVER take from a human, least they succumb to the bloodlust and become what they are fighting against. Mates are found through humans who are predisposed with a genetic marker that allows them compatibility. Each breedmate is determined through a birthmark they carry. Each book gives us the story of one Breed member’s search and finding of their one true love. It’s not a easy journey for either and that’s one reason I love this series. Ms. Adrian doesn’t guarantee that our heroes and heroines will have an easy time of it and she often makes them work very hard even after mate to ensure their HEA.

Darker After Midnight (Midnight Breed, #10)Earlier today, Helyce reviewed Darker After Midnight. We happen to have an extra, brand new copy (hardcover) to give away today!

To enter, leave a comment and tell us what your favorite thing about the Breed series is. If you are new to this series, tell us why you want to read it.

Contest open through tomorrow (January 24th) and open to everyone.

Dark, tortured heroes who happen to being fighting on the side of good who protect those they love, who love with their whole being….and how could I possibly not be a fan of that? I was also pretty impressed with the author’s explanation of the vampire myth. At the time, there was not so much variation from the original.

I have read Kiss of Midnight. I won Deeper than Midnight but haven’t started it yet. I’m not sure if I should read them out of order. I hate to sound like everyone else, but it’s the guys that I love. The tortured hero redeemed by a good woman is always one of my favorite themes.

I agree with LITTLE LAMB LOST above “Dark, tortured heroes who happen to being fighting on the side of good who protect those they love, who love with their whole being….and how could I possibly not be a fan of that?” I couldn’t have said it better myself!!! I’ve collected all this series but a hardback is too much for my limited budget. Winning one is the solution :-) Thanks for the giveaway! glittergirl54 at ymail dot com

My favorite thing about the Breed series is the unique vampire mythology that the author has come up with. It’s not the same old thing, and it takes a lot of the vampire traits and makes sense of them – because of course aliens would have differences in their biology than humans, etc. I love the strong, courageous warriors of the Order and love seeing them meet their match in the woman who’s right for them. I always look forward to the next book in the series, they’ve all been so fantastic.

I hope I’m not too late!
This is one of my favorite series of all time. I love the take on the vampires being otherworldly and I love how the Breedmates have the crescent moon teardrop birthmarks — so cool! I love how that even though the Breed are essentially alien, they seem more like humans (albeit with fangs and a thirst for blood) and they have such a forbidding, cunning, and frustrating nemesis in Dragos. Lara’s writing is very vivid and rich and really sucks you into the world of the Breed and their mates. Another thing that I love is that the Breed are flawed too — they struggle, fight, and overcome their own personal battles, and it’s not always easy. The Breedmates have their own powers — which may just be my favorite aspect of this series — and they often help the Breed males in the war against Dragos. I just really love this series!
I would love to win this to complete my collection! Thanks for the giveaway! :)

Where to begin? The dark tortured heroes are a must for me, the darker the better (I love Tegan’s book). The action and suspense in this series keeps me gripped, so much so that I can no longer read them before bed as you would find me still sat up at 3am going ‘just one more chapter’. I love that the women are just as much warriors as the men. Oh and finally, Lucan, hot damn that man is awesome.
In summary I just love everything!

How I love the Midnight Breed let me count the ways…

    1. Lucan, Dante and Tegan
    2. I love how the vampires are are not undead but otherworldly!
    3. Rio, Nico and Andreas
    4. I love that heroines are just as active in beating the big bad as the heroes are!
    5. Kade, Brock, Hunter and Chase
    6. I love that I love to hate Dragos! He is an awesome big bad!
    7. I love that just when you think you might have it all figured out you find out you were wrong again!
    8. The kick a$$ heroes! (My fave scene is Tegan walking out of the warehouse he just blew up and Brock is talking about how cold Tegan is to Niko and he replies “He’s ice”!)
    9. Dermaglyphs are HOT!!! (Especially when they are pulsating in deep burgundy and indigo!)
    10. I LOVE TEGAN!!!

Well I could go on and on and on but I won’t. I LOVE this series and I would LOVE to win this book! Thanks for the awesome contest!!!

Since there is no middleman involved, the prices are almost always lesser than brick and mortar stores.

There are other advantages to online shopping that can help you to reduce your carbon footprint.
Do rounds of as many shops as possible before you start buying, this will give
