Thea HarrisonJust Between You and Me

I’m delighted to be back on Smexy Books! Thank you for having me!

When I sat down to consider the possible smexiness of another blog with you, I got to thinking about a recommendation made by a follower from Twitter who said she loves to hear about the little tidbits that only the author knows about the characters. That turned my thoughts to having a good old-fashioned gossip fest, and I decided it would be really fun to share with you, the readers, little snippets from the lives of a few of the characters in my Elder Races series. And naturally I thought I should start off with Dragos and Pia, who started the whole series, along with several other cast members from Dragon Bound.

Dragos, the Great Beast and Lord of the Wyr—loves watching Showtimes’ The Borgias. History, betrayal, assassination, war—what’s not to love? He also enjoys HBO’s Game of Thrones, and he is quite interested in finding out what happens with the little hatchlings from the end of season one. (This makes Mandi giggle!)

Pia, mate to Lord of the Wyr—is, alas, a girly girl after all, because she hates her hair. She’s always wanted sleek, shiny smooth hair like the Dark Fae. As it is, if she doesn’t work with her hair daily, the humidity turns it into a snarly mess.

Graydon, sentinel, Wyr and gryphon—Graydon has a wicked powerful crush on someone. Even as I write this, he’s trying to wrestle the keyboard away from me so I don’t reveal who it is. Don’t worry, Gray. Now is the time to tell a little, but not all.

Grym, sentinel, Wyr and gargoyle—doesn’t talk much because he doesn’t like to talk. I know, I know, it makes him a tough nut to crack. But sooner or later I’ll get him to tell me his story. Then, you and I can talk again and I’ll share more secrets with you. *wink*

Bayne, sentinel, Wyr and gryphon—Bayne has stopped dating for the time being. All these matings have gotten him rather spooked. In fact, he won’t hardly talk to anyone of the opposite sex at the moment. His fellow sentinel Aryal doesn’t count, of course.

Aryal, sentinel, Wyr and harpy—even as I type this, Aryal’s giving Bayne a dirty look. Other than that, ah, what to say about the harpy. She loves trouble and often starts it. She counts her grudges and holds them dear… and she cannot stand to watch those pitiful animal commercials on television. They make her teary. And when she gets teary, she’s liable to get violent. It’s safest all around when she DVRs the shows she likes so she can fast forward.

Constantine, sentinel, Wyr and gryphon—Ah, Con, the “man slut.” Con’s deepest secret is, he’s getting tired of the constant promiscuity. He’s starting to wonder what it might be like to actually get a full night’s sleep for a change. He’s found his attention wandering sometimes when he’s doing the dirty with what’s-her-name, or what’s-their-names, if there’s more than one at a time. (And so often there have been more than one at a time.) The thing is, he never remembers their names any more.

~ And then I thought we should check in on the two main characters from Oracle’s Moon, Grace and Khalil (Berkley, March 6th).

Oracle's Moon

Grace, the human Oracle—Grace is known for her pragmatism. She’s had to be pragmatic. She wants to be pragmatic. She never chooses frilly things when she goes shopping. It’s sports bras and bikini briefs the whole way. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t like to look at frills. She has an addiction to women’s magazines that she’s rarely had the money to satisfy. She loves the chocolate cakes on the covers, that are so often side by side with the latest diet articles. And sometimes she clips the recipes then cooks the chocolate cake.

Khalil, prince of the Djinn—Khalil has actually “cross-dressed” and tried solidifying into a female form before. Some Djinn, such as his friend Ismat, move quite comfortably back and forth between male and female forms. Those Djinn tend to choose their form of the moment as an expression of mood. Other Djinn focus strongly on one gender or another, such as Khalil who identifies himself as very male. But he thought in the spirit of open-mindedness once that he ought to give the female form a try… and he stood perplexed in front of a mirror, cupping the pair of round breasts that were attached to his form. Then he slid one hand between his legs and stood that way, frozen, for one long moment. No. Just, no. He let the odd female form go, reverted back to his male self and he never spoke of that occurrence to anybody.

Because, no.

So there you have it, dear readers. A little something about the characters that only you and I know.

Ssh, don’t tell.

Oh that was fun :). Thank you for the bits of insight into these great characters.
I was wondering about Dragos and Rune’s relationship. Dragos had told Rune in Dragon Bound that he was his best friend. It kind of hurts that they threw the friendship out the window. Please tell me it can be fixed. Thanks.

Oh, this was great! Little hatchlings-LOL. :) I got my Oracle’s Moon today, can’t wait to start reading. I heard all the best from early reviewers, so I did my happy dance when my copy came. You certainly got me interested with cross dressing. When guy decide he don’t want to be a woman when he put his hand between his legs, then I know I don’t want to miss what there is. ‘Cause, come on, if there’s a choice who wouldn’t want to be a woman? :).
I’m happy to find out some more about Constantine ’cause I was intrigued since I read in Dragon Bound Gray saying that guy has narcissistic tendencies with his hair.. Love me some gryphon man slut.:)Good point about Rune… Next book is going back to Dragos and Pia, so we’ll know what happening in mighty dragon’s head.Love this little treat!

Thea I just wanted to tell you I LOVE YOUR SERIES <3. I can't say enough about it. I've been talking it up on the internet since Dragon Bound. I am SO GLAD you came back to writing. I just recommended your series to a bookseller at Barnes & Noble. I'm in the middle of Oracles Moon and it is of course AWESOME. Your stories are real (even in a paranormal world), believable and complex. I love how you surprise me. You can't write these fast enough and if I'm in the middle of a book I will drop it and read your new release! Keep it up. Oh, and really Khalil as a female. He's to MALE and arrogant to do it until he met Grace. He might try on the "suit" for a moment to understand Grace better though :-).

Hi everybody! I’m so glad you enjoyed the little snippets. :) Mandi, thanks so much for having me on your blog again.

I will say, there is a lot of forward movement with all the characters in the series, not only in their personal growth but in their relationships! I’m so grateful to Berkley and to the readers for giving us all a chance to explore where these characters go in their lives.

    Happy reading!
    Thea
