Smexy’s Lover Reborn Recap
Smexy’s Top Ten

Tori’s News-I caught a dang cold on Sunday so this week has been spent hacking, sneezing, and whining to my family. I was on a little YA kick this week so I decided to dive into my TBR pile and pulled out a couple that sounded enjoyable to a poor sick little blogger. My Lunatic Life and Lunatic Detective are two lighthearted YA’s by adult fiction author Sharon Sala. She also writes under the name Dinah McCall. Easy pacing, engaging dialogue, and a likable heroine made for an enjoyable read. I look forward to the third book in this series which releases in August.  Not a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice remakes, Fitzwilliam Darcy, Rock Star by Heather Lynn Rigaud was a pleasant surprise. Set in the modern world of rock gods, we are able to watch the characters we love deal with love, loss, and rock and roll in the 20th century. Sins of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #4) by Diana Rowland was as good as promised and more. More focused on Kara then anything, it has a nice police procedural/investigative feel to it then the previous books. And though we don’t  get much sexy demon time, I was pleased with the overall story. A major cliffhanger at the end was scream worthy but guarantees the next one is a must buy. Thea Harrison’s Natural Evil (Elder Races, #4.5) had a more UF feel then normal but still a good, sexy novella that satisfied my addiction till Lord’s Fall releases in November. *sob* A VERY cute m/m that caught my attention was Gambling On Maybe by Fae Sutherland. A solid and short novella about a muy sexy in the closet police officer and a sparkly boy toy who is determined to get frisked, patted down, and held over for interrogation by his cop, one way or another. Private Eye by SE Culpepper is a more serious m/m that revolves around and gay PI  detective and a straight police officer whose relationship shifts from friendship to more when they work together to bring a runaway home. Solid plot and well defined characters work well though I did think that the relationship moved forward too quickly to be completely believable. I admit that I originally bought Mine by Mary Calmes because of the cover. OMG-it is so lickable. Nom nom. The first half was very enjoyable as we meet our alarmingly codependent couple Trevan and Landry. The last half seemed a little disorganized as we lose focus on the main conflict and our couple sinks into a emotional tug of war where nothing is really settled. Overall though, it wasn’t bad and the smexy scenes were HAWT! The Thirteenth Sacrifice: A Witch Hunt Novel by Debbie Viguié is a creepy urban fantasy that brings back the witches of the past. Action packed from the get go, we follow a reluctant heroine as she is forced to face her horrific past in order to save her town from destruction. Review to come. I am currently reading Christopher Moore’s Sacre Bleu and Charlotte Stein’s Sheltered.

May’s News- This week in May-ville there was absolutely no reading going on for the first 6 days of this week for one simple reason: I discovered the show Burn Notice and it’s on Netflix online streaming. Stuck in Miami a burned (fired) spy for USA, Michael is a crafty beast. I love his little tips and notes from his life as a spy. He’s making a modest living taking on some private detective work and taking out Miami’s baddies, and it’s just awesome. Like part MacGyver, part Alias, part A Team… it just is made of pure 100% awesome. The show had me in the first episode when Fiona (ex-girlfriend) kicks a huge guy’s ass who had a gun at her head. Oh yes, May likes.

I watched the first season in 5 days, it ate all my free time. I am so glad my friend demanded I watch this. It’s such a May show! I could talk all day with you about it – I’ve already demanded that Miss Mandi check it out.

On the 7th day (aka when I finished season 1) I read Suzanne Enoch’s new book (Taming an Impossible Rogue) and it was lovely! Not my absolute favorite of hers, but a unique and fun love story with characters I couldn’t help but adore. Review to come here soon.

Now I need to decide if I’m starting season 2 or picking up a book this weekend…

Helyce’s News-I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy of Tangle of Need by Nalini Singh.  I dove right in and was just getting into it when there was some chatter on Twitter about a guy named Flynn. Who was this guy that left readers so wanting that they would beg the author for a sequel?  Nicole put me on the right track to Willing Victim by Cara McKenna. I’m not big on bdsm, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this story.  I loved the character of Flynn.  My only “dislike” was that I felt it ended very abruptly.  Just when the couple was at a point where they were exploring their relationship together, it ends.  I was not happy and I can see why readers want more.  So I add myself to the “Need More Flynn” team.  Can you hear us Ms. McKenna??  Before I had a chance to revisit Tangle of Need, Mandi emailed me and said I had to read Sheltered by Charlotte Stein.  When Mandi says “ZOMG” about a book, it’s a must read for me! So I did, and ZOMG!  She was right.  Loved! This was a strange, dark romance between a young woman who had been totally sheltered by her parents and had also suffered abuse at her father’s hands.  She becomes involved with a young art student who is everything her parents warned her away from.  Pulled me in and I read it straight through!  Then, Tuesday rolled around and it was time for Lover Reborn by J.R. Ward.  I have been trying to read it slowly and I now have less than 50 pages to go. I have very mixed feelings about this installment and I’m still digesting, so I don’t want to say much about it at this time.  After Lover Reborn, I will be finishing up Tangle of Need and then move on to my April review books!

You were talking about it on Twitter with someone and I got nosey and asked you what book. So yes, you were my introduction. I knew Mandi had read it, but the theme of it was a turn off for me, until I saw all your tweets and my curiosity got the best of me.

Wow, that are a lot of great books. The latest Ward has still not arrived home, and I would so love to read Tangle of Need!
