Smexy’s Top Ten–April 13th

April 13, 2012 by Mandi 17 Comments

10. I survived a week at Disney. Just barely. I had never been, so I didn’t know what to expect. I knew my kids would love it, but I was surprised to discover how much I loved it. The “It’s a Small World Ride,” – that is me. I want to live in there and be a hula dancer. I’m not kidding. Highlights for my kids – Space Mountain, Indiana Jones Stunt Show, Harry Potter at Universal (we drank Butter Beer!), and they loved everything at Animal Kingdom. So much fun, however, I now need a vacation to rest up from this vacation. No one told me how Disney would kick my butt. Zomg.

9. The RT convention is going on right now. Heroes and Heartbreakers tweeted some fab info from some of the panels yesterday. (Follow them here, and watch the #RT12 hash tag on twitter for more info), as did Literary Escapism. Some highlights:

There are significant plans for the ghost, Nalini says. (Psy/Changeling series)

Nalini Singh says the ghost is someone you’ve met in the course of the book in Psy-Changeling series

Nalini Singh won’t answer who’s the hero of the next book

Nalini Singh contracted to write three more in series, then will see what she feels like

Jeaniene Frost promises at least two books in Vlad’s series. Probably not three. Can’t say anything w/o spoilers. Vlad’s heroine is human but not average.

Night Huntress #7 might be titled Up From the Grave

Charlaine Harris’ HARPER CONNOLLY series will be filmed for @syfy!

Charlaine Harris just gave us the title for the last Sookie novel – DEAD EVER AFTER

Charlaine Harris has signed a three-book deal for new series, third person POV, multi pOV, mystery, pnr, probably a lot of violence

Scrap Metal8. I didn’t get a lot of reading time on vacation, but I did manage to sneak in, Scrap Metal by Harper Fox. I really enjoy this author’s voice. Each of her stories are so different and unique. In this one, we meet Nichol who comes home from school to help his grandfather with his farm on an island off of Scotland. It is a lambing farm (you learn quite a bit about this which I found interesting). Nichol doesn’t want to be there, but with the death of his mother and brother, he feels a family duty to help his elderly, yet very cranky, grandfather. Cam is on the run, and ends up hiding in Nichol’s barn, where he is discovered. Nichol decides to give him shelter, and the grandfather takes to him – which surprises everyone. Secrets are revealed, and a sexy romance unfolds. Nichol and his grandfather’s relationship is also explored and done really well. I enjoyed this one (as all of her books). (Goodreads, Amazon)

7. New series alert – From Julie Ann Walker, Black Knights Inc series. Hell on Wheels is book one and will be out this August. From what I hear this is Sons of Anarchy meets 007. Oh realllly? A series to keep an eye on.

6. News broke yesterday on JR Rowlings new adult book. Titled, The Casual Vacancy, and due out September 27th, here is the blurb:

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early forties, the little town of Pagford is left in shock.

Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war.
Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils…Pagford is not what it first seems.
And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen. Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity and unexpected revelations?

Blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising, The Casual Vacancy is J.K. Rowling’s first novel for adults. Source.

5. Katniss (Heroine from The Hunger Games) is now a Barbie. I kind of dig her with her bow and arrows and boots. The article says she is make-up free…Katniss must have some nice natural eyes. She is available this August. Source.

image4. In news that will clog your arteries, Pizza Hut in the UK has come out with hot dog stuffed crust pizza. Sweet mama. That sounds gross, yet if it ever crosses the ocean, I feel oddly intrigued to try it. Plus, who can pass up free mustard drizzle?

And if hotdogs are not enough, here is a bacon flowchart (in honor of Tori who loves her bacon)

image

This makes me giggle every time I read it. LOL Source.

My kind of tea cups ;p3. I need these to wash down that pizza and bacon. Because I’m a classy lady. Source.

2. I have a new favorite tumbler – Dark Angel Dreams (NSFW). I was going there to look for hot guys for Pinterest *ahem* But – then I came across her casting picture (above) for Cut & Run by Urban and & Roux (One of my favorite M/M romance series!!) I felt connected to him or her (I don’t know who writes it). He or she also posts other reading pics sometimes. Plus hot nekkid men. And sometimes there are pictures that just make me burst out laughing. Like this one (NSFW).  Really a perfect fit for me LOL.

1. This weekend I’m reading The Girl’s Guide to (Man)Hunting by Jessica Clare (aka Jill Myles). I’ve read about 75 pages so far and it’s a cute and sexy contemp so far. I’m also going to read Bewitching by Jill Barnett. I read another of hers this week, Dreaming, and it was sooooo adorable. I giggled and swooned. At the time this post goes up, it is $1.99 for Kindle. Highly rec it for historical fans who like pirates, smugglers, and a little magic.

I plan on trying this recipe soon. I have to use turkey bacon so I’m not quite sure how that changes the taste. but “shrug” it’s bacon.

Armed and Dangerous – zomg. I assume you’ve read Warrior’s Cross that has Julian in it? They play a big role in this one supposedly.

Bk 3 is Judd? Oh Judd. She writes the best sexual tension AND sex scenes. Dmitri in her Angel series about did me in last year ;)

Did you by any chance see the price of that J.K. Rowling novel? $35 for hardback and $19.99 for ebook. Talk about your ZOMG’s! Think I’ll pass. It’s not something I’d normally read anyway, I just thought that was ridiculous.

The blurb for A&D says that Ty and Zane go on a mission to rescue Julian Cross, so will see him and Cameron with our boys.
And, yes, it was Judd. :)

We went to Disney 2 years ago — and it kicked our butts. We were at the parks by 8:30 and we didn’t go to sleep until 11:30 at night. But it was SO much fun!

Welcome home Smexy! We missed you! Tori took excellent care of us! I’m glad you had fun on your vacay. I’m really looking forward to my Disney vacation next year.

The new JK book doesn’t sound like anything I’d be interested in. And if its selling for $35.00 like an earlier poster said, I KNOW I won’t be!!! That woman is rich enough & that price is ridiculous!

I wish I was rich & could go to the RT convention! Alas, I will just have to settle for following the tweets of the people who are there & experience it vicariously through them. Lol.

Great Nalini Singh news! In my opinion, she can write 20 more books in the psy/changelings series. They are just sooo good.
That Julie Ann Walker series sure looks good!
The pizza news, well, the crust won’t be dry anymore I guess. The bacon chart is funny! My boyfriend loves his bacon!
    Thank you!
