Smexy’s Top Ten

News From Mandi: I usually enjoy Sarah Morgan’s books, but The Forbidden Ferrara didn’t quite do it for me. It has a secret baby which I liked, but the hero is just too bossy and controlling and I never felt the romance bloom between him and the heroine. Full review to come soon. Next up was The Hostage Bargain by Annika Martin. A very quirky, yet erotic book about three bank robbers (heroes) who take a sheep farmer (heroine) hostage, yet she is excited to go and be their sex slaves of sorts. It’s light, and like I said just..quirky. I think it is well written, but not sure if it is the book for me. Review to come. I read a definite favorite this year, About Last Night by Ruthie Knox. A contemporary love story about two people who meet on a train in London, and fall in love. The heroine has a very messy past which gives her commitment issues, but the hero is so warm and patient with her. Highly recommend this one! Review to come soon. I read the quick novella, Brush Strokes by Dee Carney. This one has great sexual tension at the beginning, as a painter starts to do other things with her male model. But it fizzles towards the end. I also read one of my favorite authors, Kaki Warner. Her latest, Bride of the High Country wraps up her trilogy and I really enjoyed it.She writes western historicals that are definite comfort reads for me. If you haven’t read her, I recommend starting with Pieces of Sky. I’m currently reading Spy Hard by Dana Marton which is a little slow at the moment, and Soul Bound by Ann Hope. I like this one but the world is confusing. We’ll see how it all plays out.

Tori’s News: I wrote a post on masturbation in romance this week. (Mandi popping into say, it hasn’t posted yet, or I’d leave a link) I just had to get that out. LOLOL Now, on to what I read. I reread Liberating Lacey by Anne Calhoun, V’s and Phury’s books in JR Ward’s BDB series, Sin Undone by Larissa Ione and Elizabeth Hoyt’s Scandalous Desires for the masturbation post. If you haven’t read any other these (except Phury’s book) then you are seriously missing out. Nom Nom. Mandi helped me find quotes for my masturbation post ‘cause she’s a true friend like that. Can you guess that I am trying to see how many times I can get masturbation into this post? Okay, I’m done.

Finished Barbara Ashford’s Spellcrossed. It took me awhile to get into it but once I did, I was happy with the direction it took. Review to come.I was so happy to see Rachel Gibson’s Rescue Me was a full length novel and gave us Vince Haven’s story. For those who read Any Man Of Mine, you know that Vince is Autumn’s brother and that he disappears abruptly to take care of some business. He is as delightful and snarky in here and he when we first met him. PLUS…he still hates Sam. Review to come. Rescue Me of course led me to re reading Not Another Bad Date which has to be one of my favorite Gibson books to date. Erica O’Rourke’s Bound, the end to her Torn Trilogy, delivers the goods in this action packed PNR YA. Review to come. Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter, the spin off of her best selling LOTU series, was good but not quite what I expected. Review to come.

Since I am behind in my reviews (I have 6 waiting) so not sure what reading I will do. Plus, it’s Memorial Day weekend and drinking is required. I am currently re reading Ward’s Lover Avenged because LOVE Rhev. LOVE. HIM. I have Diane Rowland’s My Life As a White Trash Zombie and Even White Trash Zombie’s Get The Blues waiting for me, along with Wake Of The Bloody Angel by Alec Bledsoe. Nat from Wicked Little Pixie blog tells me I MUST read Beauty Queens by Libba Bray so I may try and sneak that one in.

Hope everyone has a fantastic and safe weekend!!

News From May: This was the first week I’ve ever read 100% ebooks. Guess my kindle is growing on me! This was also a week of novellas – seven to be exact!

I finished Tessa Dare’s A Lady by Midnight, and I adored it. WOW. It even had a fabulous epilogue – and I never like epilogues! (review to come).

Then I was onto Jaye Wells Green Eyed Demon (book 4) and Blue Blooded Vamp (book 5) in her Sabina Kane series. I like this series a lot. It is solid, I’d recommend to someone who loves UF and wants a finished series. There is a definite HEA, I liked how it all came together. It just wasn’t an amazing series, it never hit the sweet spot and the characters were not developed especially well.

Back into historical – I read Three Weddings and a Murder. Great anthology, and proceeds go to a good cause too! (review to come soon!) It was a bit wild to read three straight historicals and then fall into a contemporary suspense though. Oh my. Good thing I like both!

Continuing on my to be reviewed novella reading list, A Little More Scandal by Carrie Lofty I just finished and oh my. I liked these characters and their smoldering attraction. Love Lofty’s writing… it’s so engaging. Review to come here at Smexy.

I have such a thing for superhero romance (know of any? Tell me!!) – and Lola Dodge’s Temptress had only one disappointment: the novella was not nearly long enough to support all that was going on. I NEEDED more! (review to come)

Now I’m on a super hero kick and checking out Breaking Bad by Jodi Redford (also novella length) – I hope it’s a fun one!

Sad that the Sarah Morgan didn’t deliver for you, Mandi. I have my fingers crossed I’ll still love it – I’ve loved every one of her books without fail, as she’s truly one of the category authors that has mastered their craft. I’ll keep an eye out for all of the upcoming reviews on these books – too many sound interesting.

Mandi: I am looking forward to your Ruthie Knox review.
Tori: Yeah, finally someone who enjoyed Rehv’s book :)
May: The only superhero romance I can think of, Vickie Petterson Sign of the Zodiac series, or Jennifer Estep Bigtime series.
