Holla!! It’s Tori. I’m so pleased that I am here today with New York best selling author Gena Showalter to talk about life, books, smexy men, and her newest release-Wicked Nights– #1 in her new series-Angels of the Dark.
Hi Gena! (fangirl SQUEEE) Thanks so much for being here with me today at Smexy Books. I adore your Lord Of The Underworld series and smexy men so your Angels of the Dark series excites me in ways I really can’t say on here. Wicked Nights, which is smexy angel Zacharel’s story, releases June 26.
Can you tell us about the book and the Zacharel?
Wicked Nights is a story about the new leader of the Army of Disgrace—heavenly warriors in danger of falling from grace—and a human girl who has spent the last four years locked in an institution for the criminally insane. Zacharel, the leader, doesn’t have time for a distraction, but Annabelle, the girl, fascinates him in a way nothing else ever has. He struggles with what to do, and I had a lot of fun watching that.
As for Zacharel… my cold as ice Zacharel. I knew a simple melting wouldn’t be enough for him. To reach the heart he was no longer sure he possessed, a woman would have to shatter him. There was no one better suited for the job than Annabelle. She is tough yet vulnerable, hard yet kind, determined yet willing to be swayed. And Zacharel is able to give her something she desperately needs: someone to stand in her corner and fight for her, no matter the obstacles thrown at him.
In Wicked Nights, the LOTU gang makes appearances. Will you continue to “marry” these two series and why did you decide to write a LOTU spin off series?
You know, I’m just not sure. I’m working on book two right now, and so far there’s been very little overlap. However, I do think that the war in the skies will ultimately bleed into the Lords of the Underworld realm. Heck, the Lords might even start it.
How many books do you have planned for this series and who is next?
Right now there are three books contracted. The first belongs to Zacharel, the second to Koldo, and I’m not sure who will get the third. But that doesn’t mean there will only be three, I promise!
When will we get William’s story?
He isn’t currently in the schedule, but soon I hope! He was always a favorite character of mine and I’d like to see him settled. With me. Or someone else. But mostly me.
What is your favorite supernatural creature?
You know, it’s not so much the species that does it for me but the characters themselves. I love watching them grow and learn and okay, fine, be dropped to their knees by the little woman they just can’t resist.
What do you love and hate about the writing process?
I love creating. I love holding the finished book in my hands. Sometimes I’m not a fan of the blood, sweat and tears that actually go into making that finished book, though LOL I love knowing what direction to go with a story and the characters, and I hate making wrong turns.
Is there any particular playlist or group you listen to when you write?
As I write the Angels of the Dark books, I love to listening to Jason Allen Rich, Chris Tomlin, Jeremy Riddle and John Waller. They inspire me.
What big thing do you want to do that you haven’t done yet?
I want to take a month off and travel with my family, just hanging out and having fun, trying new foods (so the food is the most important thing, so what?) It’s a dream of mine!

Congrats on the release. I have read part of the LoTU series, but no other books by Ms. Showalter. I love paranormal books and especially series though so I would love to try this book. It does sound really good.
