Smexy’s Top Ten Reasons to be Thankful…
Aftershock by Jill Sorenson Giveaway!
News from Mandi: I started this week by reading half of Ice Cold by Cherry Adair, her latest T-Flac book but I eventually DNF’d it. I have enjoyed several of her over the top T-Flac suspense books in the past but this one had no chemistry between the hero and the heroine and the action never grabbed me. It felt flat and rough in some spots. I think her early T-Flac books are so much fun if you want to try one start with Kiss and Tell.
Acceleration by Amelia Gormley is the second book in her series following new lovers Gavin and Derrick. They have been together only a short time but have intense feelings for each other.Derrick is new to the dating game and Gavin is coming out of an abusive relationship so they both have issues to work through. The angst in this one is pretty intense and I would have liked a little more focus on their issues rather than multiple, emo sex scenes. (but they are well done!). But I like these two guys and I’m looking forward to continuing their story. This author has a nice voice. Review coming soon.
Finally I read Aftershock by Jill Sorenson. An earthquake hits San Diego and this story takes place with people who survived the freeway collapse, and are now stuck within a cavern of sorts under the road. The heroine is a paramedic and the hero….well he has a secret you’ll have to find out. This book is very, very graphic and gritty. The author does not gloss over the violence and injuries that occur with a natural disaster of this magnitude. To add to the drama, survivors from a prison van are also down there with our hero and heroine. While I think the action and natural disaster storyline is done well, I never believed in the romance. That part lacked for me. Otherwise a very different premise. I noticed at the end that a supporting character is getting a book next year and I’m interested to read his story.
I’m currently reading Shadow’s Claim by Kresley Cole. This is the first book of her spin-off series from her Immortals After Dark world. I’m about 100 pages in and enjoying. Took a few pages to understand what exactly happened to the heroine and hero, but now I’ve grasped it and Cole’s snark and great sexual tension are already present.
I’m also eager to read Steel’s Edge, the final book in Ilona Andrews’ Edge series. I ADORE this series and I’m SO sad it is ending, but so excited to read this book. It will download on my Kindle this Tuesday!
