I like to call this book my guilty pleasure crack book. I really liked this book. I like Ander and there are moments where I got all melty and swooned. I pretty much read this book in one sitting, as I could not put it down. The story is a really good one, and I enjoyed the journey the hero and heroine go on. But but but…the heroine annoyed me at times. The hero’s lips twitched almost 50 times in this book (yes I kindle searched). The heroine “snickers” a ridiculous amount. The hero “jerks his head sideways” on more than one occasion while having sex. All of these things should have annoyed me, but at the same time, I liked this book so much I pushed that all aside and just went with the flow.

Their first sex scene or two is very clinical and I almost thought I wouldn’t like this book. But as I read I realized I liked that it started off as clinical because the author does a great job building up their relationship from a paid sexual session to true love. It’s a really fun read. Big thanks to Kate and Elyssa for rec’ing it to me.

Now onto the sex scene! How about a glimpse of some elevator sex….

“For the fourth time,” Ander rasped, still speaking into her ear. “I’m not mad.”

She shifted restlessly against the wall, dying for some sort of friction against her skin. Her squirming caused her to brush up against Ander.

She felt something. Something that shocked her so much her mouth fell open. Her lower belly had brushed against the front of Ander’s trousers.

He was hard.

He must have seen her reaction. He must know that she knew he was aroused. He didn’t acknowledge it in any way, though. He’d pulled back enough to look her in the eye and ask hoarsely, “Tell me why you’ve continued to schedule engagements with me.”

She was too confused and overwhelmed and turned-on and shaky to even begin to make up a lie. So she gasped out the truth. “Because I like having sex with you.”

He nodded, as if he’d known she would say that. “So why do you keep making this more complicated than it is?”

A home question. Lori had no answer for him.

His hand was still planted next to her head, trapping her against the wall. He was hard. Aroused. As aroused as she was.

Unable to hold herself back any longer, she reached out and grabbed him by the hips. Pressed his pelvis against her. Rubbed herself against the bulge she felt and almost moaned at the resulting sensations.

Then she realized how shamelessly she’d groped him, when it wasn’t clear they were in the midst of one of their sessions, and she dropped her hands abruptly with a gasp. “Sorry!”

Ander put down his case, which he’d been holding in one hand all along. Then he planted his second hand on the wall on the other side of her head. “Lori?”

“I didn’t mean …” she began, her cheeks blazing. “I mean, if you didn’t want to keep the appointment tonight, I shouldn’t have—”

“We can keep the appointment,” he rasped, his eyes raking over her face. “Do you want to do this here?”

In the elevator. In between floors ten and eleven in an expensive, old-fashioned Seattle hotel.

“Yes,” she breathed, arching against the wall so she could rub her aching nipples against his chest.

Without another word, he buried his face in her neck, mouthing and nibbling and kissing in an urgent pattern she couldn’t begin to follow. His arms went around her, pressing her body tightly against his. Then he began to make small, rhythm thrusts, rocking his erection against her middle.

I read this book in one sitting too! Loved it too, Mandy, but like you I found the heroine a bit hard to take at times. I couldn’t quite buy her as a best-selling author or all her perspective on the issues in Ander’s life. Her youth, which comes across believably as we learn about the reasons she’s still a virgin, is why the story is compelling to begin with. But the author wants her wise beyond her years by turns and there, for me, are the weak spots in an otherwise couldn’t-put-it-down read.

Hm. I bought this today based on your review (and the fun premise), but I’ve gotta say I’m not sure I’m with you on ‘loving’ this one.

First, there were several typos/missing words that really dragged me from the story (as did the repetitive words/actions). There was a lot of sex, and I did find myself liking Ander, but for much of the book, I couldn’t really get into them becoming a real couple. It seemed like most of everything ‘between them’ was taking place in Lori’s head. During the first half of the book, the dialogue between them didn’t reflect ‘love’ and she really ‘skipped ahead’ a lot (we did this for two months, or that for three months) or ‘told’ us about his witty humor, vast knowledge, etc., without actually showing us a lot of it.

What I did like (find redeeming and make it more believable by the end) was the way they [SPOILER ALERT] stopped all sexual activity for a while. That was the first time I really started to believe in the story. The last quarter of the book definitely revealed more depth to their relationship.

Ultimately, the HEA seemed fair and deserved. I do feel a little unsatisfied with the micro-confrontation with his dad and then never any kind of further resolution (good, bad or indifferent).

Despite my problems with the story, it was a quick read and pleasant enough. Didn’t ‘dislike’ it, but didn’t love it.

Totally agree with the editing. That threw me out if the story a lot.

I’ve heard a couple of people who said they really missed out on Ander’s POV- I think coming from where u did – tell vs show. For me, I kind of liked that he was more mysterious. And I liked the transition from the feeling of just sex to “making love”

The second half was much stronger than the first half but it’s a story that has stuck with me for some reason.

It definitely did transition from ‘sex’ to ‘love’ by the end. Isn’t it funny how many women like us enjoy a mysterious hero. We project noble and good things in his ‘blank space of quiet’, but actually, in real life, I wonder if most ‘mysterious’ men are actually hiding something rather terrible! LOL

hahaha…ah yes. In real life, the mysterious dark type would not be ideal. Same as the stalker types in romance we find hot – in real life that is just plain creepy ;)
