Three Books That Hit My Radar Today

January 9, 2013 by Mandi 23 Comments

Thanks to emails and twitter, I found three ‘new to me books’ that I want to try in the near future. (As in tonight! LOL) Have you read any of these? Thoughts? Share them!

feralsins

Having always disliked shifter politics, Trey Coleman hadn’t bothered trying to form alliances with other packs. Now that his uncle – a wolf with many alliances – means to take Trey’s territory and his pack, he has no option but to form some alliances of his own very quickly or he’ll be easily outnumbered in the upcoming battle. He figures that the easiest way to do that would be to mate with a female who’s Alpha is powerful and influential. There’s only one problem with that – he would then be stuck with her, and the last thing Trey wants is a mate. When he hears of Taryn’s situation, he offers her a deal – if she falsely claims he’s her true mate and allows him to claim her, he’ll save her from her arranged mating and then let her leave after the battle with his uncle is over.

Sounds like a pretty straightforward deal…but soon Taryn and Trey realize they got more than they bargained for. Their mating instincts to protect and possess are weighing on them, they crave each other’s touch and company, and their inner wolves don’t like it whenever they’re apart. Add in that they’ll have to deal with this for an entire three months until the day of the battle finally arrives, and they’ve got themselves a recipe for disaster – or maybe for something quite the opposite.

This one has a lot of Goodreads ratings and most are pretty positive. It looks like the most noted complaint are editing errors. Most noted positive remark is a well done heroine with a possessive hero. I like the sound of that.

This one is $2.99 and if you are a Prime member, you can borrow it for free. Nice for trying out a new author.

Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright – Goodreads l Kindle l Nook

masteratarms

Masters at Arms begins the journey of three men, each on a quest for honor, acceptance, and to ease his unspoken pain. Their paths cross at one of the darkest points in their lives. As they try to come to terms with the aftermath–forging an unbreakable bond–will they ever truly become masters of their own fates? Or would fate become masters of them? (Book One in the Rescue Me series about the men who own the Masters at Arms BDSM Club.) AUTHOR’S NOTE: This is an introduction to the series, but does NOT have the Happily Ever After endings that will come in the next three romance novels in the series.

Again this has a ton of GR reviews, and lots of “wow great set-up” – It looks like this is just the introductory novella, and the real books begin with Nobody’s Angel. Either way, this one and Nobody’s Angel are free on Amazon.

Masters at Arms by Kallypso Masters – Goodreads l Kindle
Nobody’s Angel by Kallypso Masters – Goodreads l Kindle
(there are several more books to this series)

And big thanks to Alesa who emailed me these recs!

escorted

She hired him to take her virginity…but now she wants even more.
Lori might be a popular romance writer, but she’s never been anything but a flop with sex and love in her personal life. Still a virgin at twenty-six and increasingly frustrated by her inexperience, she decides to take matters into her own hands. She hires a talented, sexy male escort to take care of her inconvenient virginity.
She assumes one time with Ander will be enough, but she never dreams how much pleasure he can make her feel. Once isn’t nearly enough. Twice isn’t enough either. Soon, she becomes one of his regular clients.

Lori knows that nothing would be as foolish as falling in love with her paid escort, but she’s never been wise with her heart. And, despite his professionalism, he doesn’t seem entirely immune either

I got two very big recs for this one today from Kate and Elyssa on Twitter and I can’t wait to try it. This is $3.99 but again, if a Prime member, you can borrow it for free.

Escorted by Claire Kent – Goodreads l Kindle

So If you have read them, let me know your thoughts! I hope to review them in the near future.

Kally is also an auto-buy for me (Amy got me hooked). Her and Cherise Sinclair are pretty similar. That series is pretty good. I think Amy hated the last book though so don’t ask her about that one. lol!

I have those other two on my kindle. Anxious to see what everyone says about them.

New book- Painted Faces. Read it in one day. LOVED. So unique.

Painted Faces was one those books you go into really not knowing what to expect, after all the hero is a drag queen, but I really fell in love with it.

I’ve got Escorted on my Kindle. I think I might start it tonight. I’ve heard it compared to Curio by Cara McKenna.

I read Escorted yesterday, it was free the other day and if you like I can “loan” it to you. It was a good story, I would of liked to have had the hero’s POV mixed in with hers. I connected with her, but after I was done, I felt as though I still didn’t know him. There is a lot, I mean a lot of sex in this book, LOL! I didn’t mind, but I think some of the things that were said could have been woven in without the sex. If that makes sense. I mean, some of the feelings and realizations could have been done somewhere else and not in the middle of sex. Overall I enjoyed it. I gave it 3 stars.

      Interesting.

I just wrote a review and one of my main sticking points was that I never got to know the hero. I’m interested to see if I feel the same about this book. And I get the too much sex part….we’ll see.

I have read ESCORTED this monday when Jane from DA tweeted it as a free amazon book. Read it in one sitting. Love the storyline and characters, the eroticsm was sweet but not wow-ing me and the emotional depth gained only in the last few chapters.

I’ve had MASTER AT ARMS on my kindle since this summer. Must read it soon…would like to be invested in a new series again :)

I love the Masters At Arms series from Kallypso Masters. The first story is a short one just to tell about the 5 characters for the series, and how they meet in the service. The series is BDSM. Each story I gave it 5 stars. All first three are my favorites. I am anxious to read the next in the series. Look up the Blurbs on Goodreads. I think they are well worth the read if you like BDSM stories. The Author is coming up in the ranks as one of the best in the genra.
