Detective Delia Robinson and Fire Marshal Colin Butler had an intense fling a year ago, but their passion never turned into a relationship and they went their separate ways. But now Colin needs Delia’s assistance. There is a string of arsons and Colin and his team can’t figure out the connection between them all. He knows Delia is a top-notch detective and her input on this case is vital. Working next to her day after day, his body jumps right back to a year ago as he remembers all the fun they had. When Delia discovers that each house has a BDSM set-up, Colin is not only thankful they found a common theme among the arsons, but he is very intrigued and curious that Delia knows so much about the BDSM community.

Forbidden Fires is a quick and sexy romantic suspense book. For the most part I liked it and I thought the set-up was an interesting way to bring BDSM into the book. Delia is very much into BDSM, but never shared that with Colin when they were together because they lasted for such a short time. When she starts pointing out BDSM elements in the homes they investigated, Colin starts to wonder just how much BDSM knowledge she has. It all comes to light when they have to pose undercover as lovers who want to be taught about BDSM.

I liked these two together. What I didn’t love is the fact that Colin (and sometimes Delia) would get so physically worked up being near Delia at crime scenes, that all he would think about is his impending boner rather than the horrific fires that destroyed lives and houses. Maybe that is a human reaction and it happens in the work place, but it just seemed to happen a lot with Colin and it felt like too much. Save it for a few hours. It felt unprofessional to me and I wanted them to have more focus on solving the case, rather than always wondering about their own personal BDSM issues.

But otherwise this was a quick, fun read and I’ll read the next one.
