Who is Delphine Dryden? Give us the low down.
I think too much! And not nearly enough of that thinking is about fun smutty stuff. Former lawyer. Sometime educator. Mother of two. Gamer geek. Bisexual submissive. You know, the usual.
Nerd BDSM romance. Those three words excite me greatly, as I feel we don’t have enough nerds in the romance genre. Why nerds and why BDSM?
Nerd is my default setting, so really the question I often ask myself is how I ever manage to write non-nerd characters. I just write what I know and let the characters talk like the people I hang out with, and voilà! Nerds and geeks! BDSM is also a default setting of mine, but I think it works well for these characters since it provides them something else to geek out about. It’s sort of like LARPing only with cooler outfits, and sex toys in place of the giant foam weapons. Also, of course, orgasms.
In the Seduction Hypothesis, Ben breaks up with Lindsey and then realizes he wants her back. He soon realizes he wants to explore some kink, and win Lindsey over with it. Do you have a favorite scene or moment between them?
I sort of love their first scene on the RV where Ben is being such an asshole but you can tell he’s a nice guy down deep, and Lindsey just straight-up tells him off. I’m also fond of the scene where Ben comes out dressed like Lindsey’s dream Dom, collars her up, then blows his Dom-ly image by booping her nose with the handle of the leash. Boop!
At one point Ben tells Lindsey, "I always knew you were a pervert. I just needed to grow up enough to realize that was a feature, not a bug.” A lot of BDSM books I read are dark and quite intense. This one is more sweet and adorable with a nice romance. Is it difficult to keep a somewhat lighter tone while exploring the dominant and submissive roles between Ben and Lindsey?
This is another one of those things I write because it’s my default setting. I’m neither dark nor particularly intense, so I don’t usually write that way. BDSM can also be a lot of fun, what with the endorphins and the role-playing and the phenomenal orgasms and whatnot. It needn’t be about revealing deep-seated emotional damage; some of us are just perverts because we enjoy it. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar (except that obviously in this case, by "cigar" I mean "dildo shaped like a cigar").
I noticed The Principle of Desire is coming this December. Any hints?
Flexibility. Variables. Control. Whips. Switches!
