Smexy’s Top Ten–July 26

July 26, 2013 by Mandi 21 Comments

naughty10. The naughty corner is a good thing, right?

9. Last week during the RWA conference, the Ritas and Golden Heart winners were announced! You can see a list of the winners HERE. I was happy to see Laura Griffin win for Scorched. I think she is one of the best romantic suspense authors out there. I also adore Sarah Morgan’s contemporaries. And Sarah MacLean has a nice historical voice.

derbygirl8. I think Derby Girl by Tamara Morgan is one of the most striking covers I’ve seen. I love it. It releases in late August. You can read the blurb at Goodreads.

runtoyou7. I’m currently reading Run to You by Charlotte Stein, which released yesterday. It features a huge, hairy Hungarian hero and a heroine who is all awkward with no self confidence. Oh – and it’s verra dirty. I have a weak spot for Charlotte Stein’s voice. I’ll be reviewing it next week. But just in case you need something to read over the weekend… Goodreads l Kindle l Nook

6.

Earlier on Facebook this week, Becks released a seven second video of him putting a shirt ON. My poor little brain couldn’t grasp the idea that Becks would put a shirt on rather than just leave it off.

But then I saw the full version of this video, which happens to be a new fragrance campaign *stops to think about what Becks smells like*. And the full video is pretty fabulous.

5. Even more fabulous…the way Buzzfeed breaks down the Becks video.

In particular – Becks back:

becksback

AND – as Buzzfeed says,

”When he stares into his own eyes and he’s like, “Would you do me?”

beckseyes

YES Becks. Yes we would.

housecards4. I’ve seen much buzz on Twitter about the political drama, House of Cards. But it is a Netflix Original series, and for that reason I thought it would be lame. Recently though it received a bunch of Emmy nominations so my husband I decided to try it last night. We’ve watched the first two episodes and WHOA. It’s so good already! Kevin Spacey and his wife played by Robyn Wright are so evilly delicious. Add it to your list!

unwrappedstar3. Mars have come out with a UNWRAPPED Starbursts. I don’t know how I feel about this. Easier access – but will they be all stuck together? Do I prefer a wrapped Starburst?? I might have to investigate this weekend.

cuticletatt2. For those who love a manicure, you now have a new goal to reach. A cuticle tattoo. Not an actual, permanent tattoo, but a temporary one from Rad Nails. What do we think? Do we need this?

1. This weekend I’m going to finish the Charlotte Stein, try In His Command and probably watch a lot of House of Cards. Tonight I’m going to a fondue dinner party. My contribution is Gouda fondue (really simple recipe of beer, gouda and a dash of gin at the end.) and I’m bringing this broth. It’s really yum! Have a great weekend!

Check out “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix, too. Another original NF series and it’s very good. Be forewarned: there’s lots of boobs. ;)

Ooh, more Charlotte Stein! I fell in love with CONTROL last week (and considering that I hardly read any het anymore, that’s saying something), so that’s good to know. Over the weekend, I found a used DVD of NAKED BOYS SINGING! at my local record store…quite the find! The nudity-themed songs are all fairly catchy (to the point where I was humming “I Beat My Meat” while running errands today in spite of myself, though “The Naked Maid” is probably my favorite), and the lovely boys can sing and dance quite nicely. Someone on IMDB lamented that the movie isn’t nearly as good as the live show, so now I’m obsessed with finding a production of the show somewhere. Eek. So this is how it begins…

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention–there’s full-frontal in every song but one. Every guy, too. Hallelujah!

I’ve been told that they coat them with something to make them not stick and they taste weird :(

I thought the mini starbursts were gross. Very waxy. Not juicy at all.

Charlotte Stein’s hairy Hungarian was totally the opposite of gross. I loved him (and his hairy chest) so very much.

The wrappers are the only thing keeping me from downing a bag of Starbursts in one sitting. I say keep them on! (yea, I could show some restraint but I don’t see happening anytime soon)

Unwrapped Starbursts huh? I guess it saves paper, but I wonder if they taste just as good.

House of Cards is perfect. I am a big fan of original, british series this is remake of,so my reluctance was more due to fact that I wasn’t sure it would be as good as original. Well, Kevin Spacey is brilliant and Robyn Wright made the role of his wife 100% more interesting.
Orange is the New Black is fantastic,I think you’re going to like it.
I’m on Charlotte Stein kick this whole week-she is definitely one of the best in genre.
Great Top Ten, Mandi! (particularly thankful for Becks)

Great top 10 Mandi! I will look for Starbursts in the stores here in Holland, as it sounds you all like the wrapped ones.
