News from Tori-OLA!! Not much going on this week. The kid’s back in school and it’s still hotter then Hades in FL. Can you believe Christmas is ONLY 4 months away? *thud* Where does the time go? So, anyway, I DNF’d Darker Days by Jus Accardo. I loved the premise-a mother daughter paranormal detective agency. Combined with a mysterious absent father and a mystery surrounding the seven deadly sins and I was looking forward to a fun read. Unfortunately, I couldn’t characterization of the mother and daughter. Constant fighting between mom and daughter and the over abundance of snark and one liners took a toll on my pleasure.
Below is the rest of the story.
Dare To Kiss by Jo Beverly is a small historical romance novella with a Beauty and the Beast trope. A fallen woman and her five children are saved from death by a mysterious man whose physical deformity has made him a recluse. What starts out as a way for the woman to keep her children safe becomes a tale of romance when the beauty and the beast fall in love. Fast paced and fairly predictable, Beverly hints all the main points of the story and emotional high points.
Freefall by Tess Oliver-NA/Suspense. Young woman in terrible accident which robs her of her voice. Rescued off the streets by a man who becomes her jailor. Meets her prince charming and they work to find away to be together. Interesting fast read. Very predictable yet enjoyable.
Girls Night Out by Lauren Dane-Cute chapter style visit back to Petal, GA and the craz residents who inhabit it. VERY short-only 22 pages.
Mirror, Mirror by J.D. Robb–An anthology whose stories all feature a modern suspenseful twist on fairy tales. While I enjoyed the book over all, some of the stories were far stronger than their compadres. Review to come.
The Protected (FBI Psychics, #4) by Shiloh Walker– I adore this series and in my opinion it just gets better and better. Dark and thrilling actions blends perfectly with a sexy romance between two extremely dangerous people. Review to come.
Words Of Lust by Lise Horton– A sexy humorous erotic romance about a young sexually inexperienced professor of erotic literature and the blue collared worker who wants to teach her the ways of love. Enjoyable with plenty of humor and smexy times but one point of contention was her immaturity when it came to dealing with the hero. You can see my review at Heroes and Heartbreakers.
Torch (Take It Off, #1) by Cambria Hebert-Romantic suspense that deals with insta love and a young woman whose life is in danger. I felt the suspense plot fell flat and the plot element of heroes ex wife went nowhere.
Always On My Mind (Lucky Harbor, #8) by Jill Shalvis-Not my fav Lucky Harbor book. I just didn’t like Leah. I understood her motives but she was almost too self involved when it came to her heart; hurting people with her actions. I thought Jack and Ben’s bromance was the best part of the book.
Second Chance At Happiness (Holiday Vermont, #2) by Heather Lire-A sweet very romantic second chance love story. Lovely personable characters. I did feel some of the plot lines were a bit weak and didn’t seem to resolve themselves fully. Review to come.
Sinner’s Gin & Whiskey & Wry (Sinner’s #1 & 2) by Rhys Ford– Suspense m/m romance. An enjoyable series that pairs damaged men with some of the most delicious alphas. Action packed and sexy as all get out, this series definitely holds my attention. Everyone should have the honor of hanging with those crazy Morgans.
Hydraulic Level Five by Sarah Latchaw-An impulse read the surprised me with it’s emotional overlay and realistic story of regret, loss, and rediscovery. Review to come.
Deception Cove (Rainshadow #2/Harmony #10) Jayne Castle-I love Castle’s Arcane books. They are comfort reads for me. Deception Cove comes back to rainshadow island and revolves around Drake Sebastian and the one woman who can save Rainshadow Island and Drake’s heart. Review to come.

Hydraulic Level Five by Sarah Latchaw is rec’d to me several times…I definitely have to check it out.
I just finished Spook Squad (PsyCop #7) by JCP and it’s awesome. Totally worth the wait.
Looking forward to new Shiloh Walker. I discovered her through FBI Psychics series, so I’m happy to read it’s another winner.

That Shalvis one has to be my least favorite Lucky Harbor to date. I didn’t care for Leah or Jack, tbh. I liked when it briefly focused on Aubrey and Ben.. but that’s about it.
