Smexy’s Top Ten
News From Mandi: Fire in the Smokies by Becca Jameson started my week verra sexy. It’s a pnr with fated mates – at one point there is a fire and the hero has to sleep with the heroine so they can mate and become stronger. It’s silly but fun too. Review coming next week.
The Bridesmaid’s Best Man by Susanna Carr was just okay for me. I like that the heroine is uptight and muscular – not super feminine. That was different. And the hero is pretty sexy. But the suspense plot was a little too silly for me. Review coming soon.
Stripped by Edie Harris was the highlight of my week. A really well done contemporary. The hero is an actor from Ireland and the heroine is a make-up artist. They have great chemistry and banter. And it’s very sexy. Review next week.
Always on my Mind by Jill Shalvis is another in her Lucky Harbor series. While they have become comfort reads for me, they do feel repetitive at this point. But it has a sexy hero and all that. Review coming in a bit.
Finally I read Snow-Kissed by Laura Florand, a marriage in trouble novella. Very well done. It’s short but it packs a punch. Very emotional and sad – but a nice ending. Reviewing soon.
News From Tori: Being the super Kristen Ashley fan I am, I was pleased to get a copy of Jagged. I can’t really say anything about it as the publisher asked that nothing be revealed until close to release. So…please stop thinking those nasty thoughts about me, okay? Review to come.
Penny Reid, who I had the pleasure of meeting at Book Bash this summer, sent I and May copies of next release, Friends Without Benefits. Seriously, people, if your not reading this series, you are missing out. Snarly humor, hilarious scenes, and a cast of eccentric characters will leave you laughing from page one. Review to come.
I have a secret. I love Amish romances. *dies* I can’t help it. I also watch The Amish Mafia on the Discovery Channel. Anywho. Jacob’s Return by Annette Blair is an emotional heartbreaking love story about a pair of borthers and the woman they love. Very dramatic. And Amish-y. <3
I DNF’d Charming by Elliot James. Male protagonists are a hard fit for me. I found the story extremely slow to start and the overwhelming back story information dump just too much for me to continue. I may try again later in the future.
Kelly Meding’s Requiem of the Dead was a brilliant installment to her noir urban fantasy series-Dreg City. Dark and action packed with a heroine that kicks arse. (Review here)
A little YA I found while eavesdropping on Goodreads turned out to be a fantastic coming of age story between two sophomores who meet on the school bus. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell is story of first love that sets up beautifully amongst a background steeped in humor and sorrow. I will definitely be on the look out for more from this author.
Thankless in Death by J.D. Robb was enjoyable though nothing what I have come to expect from Robb. I found the story focused too much on the villain and his thoughts leaving little time for Eve and Roarke.
Harlequin had a wonderful sale last week. Secret baby bundles.
Royal Babies: An Accidental Birthright/Majesty, Mistress…Missing Heir by Sharon Kendrick, Expecting the Sheikh’s Baby Volume 1 from Harlequin: The Desert Lord’s Baby/Saved by the Sheikh! by Olivia Gates and Cowboys & Babies Volume 1 from Harlequin: The Texas Ranger’s Twins/A Baby in the Bunkhouse/A Cowgirl’s Secret by Tina Leonard.
Whaaa? They were $.99 cents each. Everyone of you would have JUMPED on them too. I enjoyed them as they were all very Harlequin-y with alpha hole heroes and weepy heroines filled emotional drama and angsty love. HAPPY SIGH.
Afflicted by Sophie Monroe was a long drawn out read. I enjoyed book one in this series but this one drove me insane. I don’t think I ever disliked a heroine as much as the one in here. She was whiny, manipulative, and treated the hero like a booty call.
This weekend I have Larissa Ione’s Bound to You and Run To You by Rachel Gibson.

Oh my God, Tori, if you liked Eleanor and Park you have to track down a copy of Attachments and Fangirl as soon as humanly possible. Rainbow Rowell writes the most amazing books and while I was deliriously happy about it at the time, getting an ARC of Fangirl means I have even longer to wait until I get to read her next book (out 2014). She’s probably my favourite author find of the last few years, and I try to get as many people as possible to read her books.
