Natalie has lived all of her life in a small town in Texas. She now runs the diner her Gram owns, while her Gram struggles in an assisted living center. Nothing has changed for Natalie in all her years but now some excitement is back in town. Sawyer, a Navy SEAL has returned to take care of his deceased father’s farm. This small town suffocates him and Sawyer wants to get in and out as fast as possible. But when he sees Natalie again, his former flame who he ran out on all those years ago, his heart may have other plans.
I’ve enjoyed this author’s darker work in the past and was looking forward to trying something a little lighter from her, but this one didn’t quite work for me. Natalie and Sawyer were sweethearts before he ran out of town to join the Navy, leaving her in the dust. So now that he is back – I expected more tension. Maybe have them work a little harder at getting back together. But the road to romance for these two comes quite easily. There is the threat of Sawyer not wanting to put roots down hanging over them, but even that doesn’t bring in much conflict. The banter between these two fell flat for me and their chemistry and romance didn’t have a lot of spark. It’s a sexy book, but honestly, not a lot happens. Natalie and Sawyer are sweet together but I needed more out of the story.
